Job Description
Shift Manager Worksop Continental shift pattern to include days, nights and weekends Attractive Salary and Shift Allowance Employee Benefits & Training Job Purpose Manage the shift through the team leaders to maintain and improve plant performance and ensure safe operation of the plant To act as the senior person responsible for the operation of the site during the relevant shift including safety and environment Constantly deliver improved performance To ensure a high standard of product quality is maintained throughout the shift Key Responsibilities: · Responsible for the Health, safety and welfare of all employees on shift, take action and report issues and improve constantly · General staff management: performance, attendance, allocation of resources · Implement job rotation, plan and implement training to achieve desired versatility · Set the standard, confirm and manage the area, coordinating actions where required · Ensure all audits are completed and relevant · Problem solving, breakdown resolution, trouble shooting liaising with maintenance/engineering as appropriate · Monitoring operational performance of the shift and taking necessary action to respond to variations · Monitoring and ensuring performance metrics are achieved/maintained · Prioritise issues, promotion and implementation of continuous improvement and ensuring that continuous improvement initiatives are adopted/sustained on shift · Confirm Team Members and Team Leaders standardised work and feedback improvement opportunities, ensure learning is shared · Pareto issues, perform troubleshooting, countermeasures and reoccurrence prevention activities · Liaise with engineering to ensure safe and smooth running of plant and machinery · Ensure entire plant and workspace hygiene standards are maintained · Ensure product quality is maintained to high standard, take action to improve constantly in conjunction with the Technical Team · Act in the capacity of senior responsible person on site during the relevant shift Key Deliverables · Working through the team leaders ensure that performance targets are delivered for the shift e.g. volume quality efficiency · Overall responsibility for the adoption of safe working/operating procedures on shift · Optimise utilisation of staff e.g. during downtime · Ensure all shift data is entered onto database · Ensure Team Leaders maintain all communication aids for process control throughout the shift · Maintain KPI measures and review performance with Team Leaders responding accordingly · Monitoring and ensuring completion of actions from daily reports · Validate risk assessments for bespoke maintenance tasks prior to commencement of work · Ensure plant and workspace hygiene standards are maintained · Mentor and on-board new Team Leaders · Ensure relevant planned preventative maintenance activities are delivered · Ensure a smooth operational handover between shifts Key Deliverables - when acting in capacity of senior responsible person on site: · Ensure safe and secure operation of site and safe working of all staff including maintenance/engineering transport, security, weighbridge · Ensure adherence to environmental compliance requirements · Ensure scheduled deliveries of feed are adhered to and liaise with transport department regarding anomalies · Liaise with EMR/third parties regarding disruption to supply or quality issues · Act as the point of contact for security contractors, transport, suppliers and customers · Empowered to make decisions regarding operation of plant, material processing, operational priorities and staffing issues · Issue resolution or escalation of major issues to senior management Experience/Qualifications/Skills · Previous experience in a supervisory/managerial role within a manufacturing/ material processing environment ideally having previously managed through Team Leaders · Experience of managing within a blue collar environment · Previous exposure to a continuous improvement culture · Previous experience of planned preventative maintenance · Proven track record of mentoring junior staff, new employees · Evidence of basic management qualifications or equivalent training in people management · Numerate with good communication skills · Experience of shift working · Engineering background would be an advantage · Must be computer literate and have good knowledge of Microsoft programs · CMI Level 5 or equivalent · IOSH Personal Characteristics: · Experienced and comfortable with delegating tasks · Driven by success and ability to make things happen · Persists during difficult times · Empowers people to keep individuals motivated · Gives direction, leads and able to resolve conflict · Persuasive and enthusiastic when providing leadership · Good at problem solving · Able to interpret data, use practical approaches and develop expertise · Pragmatic, hands-on with strong, competent execution and attention to detail · Look to develop their people · Strong work ethic · Comfortable with maki
