Job Summary We are pleased to announce an exciting new opportunity for a talented, highly motivated Synthetic Chemist to provide scientific leadership within the Scale-up Chemistry team at our drug discovery facilities in Harlow, UK. In addition to project management, mentoring and scientific development of scientists within the Chemistry department, this role will see you working with a diverse range of global organisations, with oversight of scale up campaigns to support chemistry integrated drug discovery programs. Main responsibilities: Act as subject matter specialist, advising integrated project teams on material supply strategy Plan synthetic routes and perform literature searches to support on-going projects Optimise medicinal chemistry routes to allow for the safe delivery of advanced building blocks and APIs at multi-gram to kilo scale using large scale equipment Transfer of technical knowledge to third party GMP CMOs To provide scientific leadership to project teams by designing, influencing and co-coordinating work plans, and using sound scientific decision making and creative problem solving skills to achieve project goals. To contribute to Business Development activities. Key requirements: A first degree in chemistry or a closely related subject 5+ years of experience of synthesis on 10g to kg scale reactions Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, as demonstrated both internally and externally with clients. Experience in motivating and developing others, e.g. mentoring of junior scientists. A positive role model with a 'can-do' attitude, who contributes to departmental goals and promotes best practice. Broad understanding of the drug discovery and development process Strong track record of scientific impact in projects Strong commercial awareness, ideally gained in a CRO environment Experience of designing and coordinating chemistry work plans for others Exceptional problem solving skills, sound scientific judgement and high quality decision making, which has impacted positively on project deliverables. Awareness of how project resources and finances are managed within an acceptable budget. A dynamic and flexible approach towards achieving client-based objectives Ability to prepare high quality scientific documents to challenging deadlines.
