Job Description

The Role Construction-Related Apprenticeships: 6 Posts, Levels 2 & 3 Hackney Council's award-winning apprenticeship programme has been designed to create quality opportunities for Hackney residents and school leavers. All of our apprenticeships last at least 13 months and combine paid work, training, and study towards a recognised qualification in a relevant subject. As an apprentice with us, you will earn at least the London Living Wage, and get a package of support including additional learning and development, and help to progress into a job or further apprenticeship. Over two thirds of our apprentices stay with Hackney Council. We are looking for practically-minded candidates who have passion and enthusiasm, are reliable, have good organisation skills, a desire to deliver a high quality service for Hackney residents, the ability to form good working relationships with others and a commitment to undertaking a qualification. There are a number of construction related apprenticeship opportunities in Housing Repairs (DLO), ranging from Gas Engineering to Painting. You will train to become a fully qualified operative in your chosen trade. You will be learning key skills to repair, maintain and improve the housing stock of Hackney Council. We also have an apprenticeship to train as a Surveyor within our Building Control Team. In this apprenticeship, you'll learn to ensure that building regulations and other legislative requirements are followed when buildings are designed and constructed. Construction is one of the fastest growing sectors in London and more generally across the country. The skills and qualifications you will gain from these apprenticeships will provide you with the first step towards a great career. You will spend 20% of your time working towards your qualification or taking part in training and development activities, with the remaining time spent gaining work-based experience. Apprentice Gas Engineer (Domestic) Gas Engineering Operative Level 3 for Two Years Grade ENGIN 18 (starting salary 19,804) Gas engineering involves the safe installation, commission, decommission and ongoing service and repair of gas appliances. On a daily basis, you will be visiting Hackney Council properties to carry out general repairs and adaptations. You will learn to work on central heating boilers, gas fires, space heaters, cookers, gas meters and unvented hot water systems. You will also learn how to install gas appliances and how they work, along with energy efficiency regulations. About Us Apprentice Plumber Plumbing & Domestic Heating Technician Level 3 for Four Years Grade PLUM 18 (starting salary 19,804) The apprentice in this role will learn how to provide an effective plumbing repairs/maintenance service to Hackney Council properties including public buildings across the borough. You will learn to install and repair baths, sinks, toilets, wash hand basins, complete sink base units and clear blockages. Apprentice Carpenter Carpentry & Joinery Level 2 for Two Years Grade BDVC 18 (starting salary 19,804) You will be visiting Hackney Council properties to carry out general repairs and maintenance work. You will be learning how to install joinery items such as doors, windows, wall and floor units, skirting, panels and complete sink base units etc. Apprentice Painter Painter & Decorator Level 2 for Three Years Grade BDVC 18 (starting salary 19,804) The apprentice in this role will be carrying out painting and decorating work in tenanted/void properties and public buildings around the borough. You will learn how to undertake different types of painting and redecoration works including preparing surfaces, hanging wallpaper and painting. Multi-Trade Apprentice Property Maintenance Operative Level 2 for Two Years Grade BDVC 18 (starting salary 19,804) You will visit Hackney Council properties to carry out a range of repairs and maintenance work. You will learn skills in various trades such as plumbing, carpentry, plastering and painting and decorating to enable you to repair and renew items in Hackney Council residential properties and public buildings around the borough. Building Control Apprentice Surveying Technician Level 3 for Two Years Grade Scale 2 (starting salary 22,398) Key Accountabilities This is an apprenticeship within the Council's Building Control team which is part of the Planning service. The team's main purpose is to set standards for the design and construction of buildings to ensure the safety and health for people in or about those buildings. You'll learn to ensure that building regulations and other legislative requirements are followed when buildings are designed and constructed.
