University on Campus Volunteer Location: Flexible Commitment: Flexible We currently have Red Cross University on Campus Volunteers in the following universities: London: LSE,Royal Holloway, Queen Mary and St Georges University London South of England: Cranfield University, Exeter University, University of Kent, Universityof Oxford, Reading University North of England: Birmingham City, Birmingham University, Cheshire College, Leeds,Loughborough, Nottingham, Tudor Grange College-Solihull Scotland: University of Aberdeen, St Andrews University and Stirling University Wales: Cardiff University Please state on your application your preferred location. About this service The British Red Cross aims to reach people with first aid and humanitarian messages across the UK. Our goal is to engage with young people and encourage them to remain part of the humanitarian world, helping others in crisis. This can be achieved through staff and volunteers with a range of skills working together. About this role Are you a student at a University who is passionate about the work of the Red Cross? If so why not become an On Campus volunteer, this is a unique, flexible volunteering opportunity that won't get in the way of your studies and all volunteering can be done on campus. You will have the chance to be part of a fantastic network of student volunteers, helping to spread the message of the British Red Cross. You will set up or join an existing On Campus group. Typically groups hold regular meetings to coordinate activities and receive training and information. Some are simply fundraising groups, while others hold first aid, mental health, humanitarian awareness raising and fundraising activities plus so much more for its members. Typical tasks may include Setting up and co-ordinating regular group meetings, or being part of a group Developing or supporting fundraising plans and activities to raise money for the Red Cross Organising or attending training for the group in e.g. first aid Arranging or supporting awareness-raising sessions about the work of the Red Cross for the university or the wider community Recruiting other students as members of the group/BRC volunteers Please click here to view the full role description What we are looking for You need to have good interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills. We keep the beneficiary at the heart of what we do, working to understand their needs and the difference we make. Also someone who is: Interested in working with fellow students Enthusiastic about the work of the Red Cross and engaged in humanitarian issues Willing to arrange or be part of fundraising activities/awareness-raising sessions Willing to uphold the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and adhere to the Society's Equal Opportunities Policy What we offer Support and guidance in your volunteering role from your local Red Cross office Comprehensive free training so you can represent the Red Cross with confidence Reimbursement of reasonable out-of-pocket expenses when on duty The opportunity to mix with fellow students who are similarly interested in humanitarian issues Young People and this role We value the energy and enthusiasm that young people bring to this role. To carry out full delivery of this service volunteers must be 16. However (subject to a risk assessment, safeguarding requirements and parental consent) those aged 15 can be involved in a variety of activities such as promoting the service, supporting service volunteers and undertaking training.
