Job Description
We're looking for nurses and Operating department practitioners to join our theatres and anaesthetic care group at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS. We welcome staff with an interest in working within the theatre environment. No experience needed, as we'll provide in house training with a set supernumerary period. ABOUT OUR CARE GROUP In our care group we cover many different surgical specialities, both adult and paediatric. We're the regional centre for many of our specialities and we're affiliated with the University of Southampton for research. UHS is the trauma centre for the region, and our trauma theatres are a big part of this service. We're also the leading centre for IOERT in the country (Intra operative radiotherapy) currently available in colorectal and HPB surgery. ABOUT OUR TEAMS There are 651 staff currently working across the theatre and anaesthetics care group staffing 31 operating theatres across the Southampton General Hospital and Lymington Hospital sites. Our specialities include trauma and orthopaedics, plastics, general/emergency surgery, urology and robotic surgery, colorectal, cardiac, thoracic and vascular, ENT/OMF, HPB/UGI, spines, neurosurgery and paediatrics. In our care group, we have the following teams: - Pre-assessment - Surgical Day Unit - Pain team - Anaesthetics - Recovery - Theatre scrub - Lymington theatres/outpatients/ pre assessment There are various roles available within our care group, including anaesthetic nurse/ODP, scrub nurse/ODP, recovery nurse/ODP, and day surgery nurse. Competency in intravenous therapy and chemotherapy administration is desirable but not essential. If you do not have these skills you will be offered training to support you to develop these skills. A robust package of induction, development and education offered. Theatre and anaesthetics offers you the chance to gain diverse experience; many of our current staff also work in different roles, for example scrub and anaesthetics. Rotation to other specialities is also encouraged, and so will have the opportunity is also available to undertake training as a surgical first assistant.
