About the IT infrastructure team The IT Infrastructure team at Mako is tasked with building and operating the complex technology foundation upon which the firm's operations are built. In our team, world-class engineers and technicians work together to build a highly-reliable low-latency platform to enable the firm's business. About the role We are currently seeking a Linux Engineer who is innovative, collaborative, and driven, to join our multi-disciplined team of engineers. This role will primarily focus on Linux administration, deployment, maintenance, performance tuning, reliability engineering and issue troubleshooting. There will be an opportunity to learn about all aspects of Mako's technology footprint, as well as the business, and to grow your low level networking skills and low-latency trading experience. You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and will be installing and administrating servers, workstations, telephony systems, storage systems, and all associated peripheral devices * You will be designing, lab-testing, implementing, optimising, monitoring and maintaining the Linux server and workstation environments * You will be diagnosing and solving faults in both hardware and software * You will enable a real-time, latency-sensitive trading operation spread across global co-location facilities with a high degree of reliability * Over time you will automate everything that can be automated * You will do long-term planning and engineering for capacity, disaster recovery, business continuity, and high availability * You will be supporting core trading and business software deployed on Linux About you * You love problem solving * You have a desire to grow into an experienced Linux engineer * You love learning the details and minutiae of systems engineering in a multi-vendor environment * You have a can-do attitude to see issues through to resolution * You have an open-minded and innovative approach * You thrive in a high pressure environment * You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely * You have a proven track record of showing initiative * You love being empowered to deliver results * You have the ambition to learn and grow into a full-stack engineer * You can easily adapt to changing business needs Essential requirements * 2+ years' experience working with Linux in a system administration or engineer capacity * Knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc. * Able to learn new skills and technologies quickly Desirable requirements * Exposure to network fundamentals * Experience building Linux servers and workstations * Programming / scripting skills for automation of tasks (shell and/or python) * Hands on experience working in datacentre facilities Additional Information * Hours - Shift hours as required. Coverage is provided between 06:30 and 19:00 via three shifts. Due to the nature of the business, defined Public Holiday work will also be required. Hours for work subject to change dependent on traded markets. Out-of-hour's work is required for system maintenance (including occasional weekend work). * UK Right-to-work - Visa sponsorship is not available for this role. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK. * Travel - Working in Mako's IT Infrastructure team will afford you the opportunity to travel to our offices and datacentres across the UK, Europe, the Americas, Australia, and Asia.
