This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills, knowledge and overall professional experience. Those who are interested in applying should have at least two years’ experience at band 5 in oncology, with chemotherapy experience and competency. The Dorothea Unit is our dedicated Oncology/Haematology Day Unit we are open Monday – Friday 8am – 6pm. We offer a friendly working environment with the support to develop. The unit offers nurses the opportunity to gain experience in treating and supporting patients and their families undergoing a broad spectrum of systemic anti-cancer treatments (classic chemotherapy and new targeted treatments), blood transfusions and a variety of other supportive treatments. As a Band 6 you will be undertaking clinical care responsibilities in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team on a daily basis. You will be accountable for the day to day management of patient care and a clinical are supervising junior members of the team. You will also be expected to provide guidance and support to a group of patients and their carers, whilst developing other members of the chemotherapy team. Skills in chemotherapy administration, cannulation / phlebotomy and the care of central venous access devices are essential but further development opportunities will be available to the successful candidates.
