Overview

A Chief Engineer / Systems Design Authority (SDA) is required to join the Integrated Mission Solutions (IMS) business group, within the Mission Support Products Integrated Project Team (IPT), based out of the Luton office. Leonardo pride themselves on the quality and capability of the products that we release to the marketplace, and the role they play for the UK and overseas military, and the Electronic Warfare Operation Support (EWOS) toolsets are key to this. We work closely with our End User community to ensure that our toolsets best meet their needs, whether that be design and trials proving, mission planning and programming, or post flight analysis. The Chief Engineer will ensure the governance and quality for the delivery of the current products, and take a key role in shaping the future of Mission Support Products, using the latest technologies and ensuring that they meet the future needs of the customer The Chief Engineer will need to: Be delegated by the business as the Design Authority & Company Technical Signatory for the EWOS product family within the Line of Business. Be a domain expert, engaging with customers to define the technical solution Ensure independent product assurance through Design Reviews and ensuring company procedures are adhered to Be responsible for delivered product design, compliance, safety and integrity. Work as part of a multi-disciplined project team in close partnership with key stakeholders. WHAT YOU'LL DO Own the technical solution and be the SDA for all phases of product development by representing Leonardo with both external stakeholders and representing the Line of Business with internal stakeholders to ensure IMS is properly considered as part of the integrated solution Ensure the products are compliant with any performance required, through the development of Concept of Operations and Concept of Use. Ensure product compliance with legislative and contractual requirements Ensure robust quality, performance, cost and time trade-offs are undertaken and establish a technical solution coherent with the agreed budgets and timescales Chair design reviews on Products, Systems and Services to ensure they are technically sound and compliant with the Company's approach to lifecycle management Provide direction, control, evaluation and recommendations with respect to technical risks and opportunities Ensure a strategy for requirements matched to traceable evidence is set in place and executed Lead and Mentor the technical team to enable a cost effective design programme and product solution results WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR You really must: Be recognised as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the relevant domain Have experience in developing electronic systems and software architectures particularly with the radar and EW domains. Experience of working with Requirements, Test Qualification and Acceptance strategies. Experience of managing the Design Standard and associated Configuration Management. Experience in gaining Design Certification and Customer Acceptance. Have the ability to develop technical solutions, compliant with requirements within agreed programmes and timescales. Have the ability to produce innovative system solutions. Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to be able to interact with SMEs, regarding a wide range of technical and operational topics. Be a self-motivated leader and team player capable of working with minimum direction. It would be nice if you had: Knowledge of the Agile Software Development Lifecycle Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering or Scientific discipline (or equivalent) Chartered engineer / member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Have substantial analytical and technical problem solving skills.
