This position is for a Senior MySQL Database Specialist with a firm preference for MySQL to be part of a growing development organisation. Reporting to the Head of Architecture. We are seeking a specialist in MySQL with a future the opportunity to also work with SQL Server on the development of our complex database environment. You will be expected to work with developers in supporting their work and equally upwards in managing stakeholders as well as guiding the technical evolution of products. Technical Requirements: • A minimum 5 years' experience with recent versions of MySQL • Strong proficiency in MySQL database management • A desire for SQL Server would be useful but not mandatory • Understanding of MySQL's underlying storage engines • Experience with replication configuration in MySQL • Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in MySQL • Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements • Knowledge of MySQL features • Ability to plan resource requirements from high level specifications • Knowledge of limitations in MySQL and their workarounds in contrast to other popular relational databases • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as {{Git / Mercurial / SVN}} • Experience of working in a high-volume user environment • Database administration experience with large datasets and a demonstrable ability to efficiently organise/manipulate data • Thorough understanding of performance monitoring, analysis and tuning • Experience of managing security and permissions following best practices. • Experience of performing database backup and restore operations. • Linux/Windows • MS Visual Studio • C# or vb.net • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative focused field. Key Responsibilities: • Work closely with developers and analysts to identify and implement new solutions against business requirements and provide query support/ best practice knowledge. • Monitor and analyse database performance and utilisation to identify and resolve any potential performance issues, capacity planning, and efficiency improvements. • Review and optimise T-SQL code and database design to drive efficiency. • Proactively monitor and respond to database alerts or identify areas for improvement in relation to monitoring. • Creation and management of Security Access privileges whilst ensuring that the principle of least privilege is being adhered to. • Ensuring backups are being performed and that completed backups are routinely tested by our DBA's. • Contribute to and maintain technical documentation and operating procedures. • Troubleshooting reactive database issues for internal and production. • Responsible for enhancements, maintenance and upgrades to the database environment Delivers database administration, engineering and technical support to end users • Provides regular trend analysis to track database performance and throughput, for capacity planning purposes. • Works with business, architecture, development and technical colleagues to manage and implement changes As a well-rounded Database Specialist, your Skills and Experiences likely include: • A passion for software and technology • Quick learning capability, easily picking up new technical concepts • High standard of written and spoken English • Open and collaborative style • Problem solver • Creative and innovative • Can commit to delivering and maintaining high standards • Manage time efficiently and effectively • Pragmatic, competitive and driven to continuous learning/improvement • Development and deployment of Enterprise SaaS solutions.
