Job Title: Commercial SME Underwriter Location: Bolton Package: GBP28,000 - GBP31,000 bonus, package Industry: Commercial Insurance Underwriting Job Type: Permanent The Role: Deliver the branch financial results with accountability for broker & account level profitability and income targets, and increase technical and trading capability of the Underwriting team. Key Accountabilities: · Delivery of planned underwriting result for designated accounts through proactive account review, analysis of underwriting trends and improvement plans implemented to improve profitability. · Underwrite SME customers across all product lines profitably, accurately, consistently and in line with established underwriting practices and governance framework, using the full range of appetite and tools available. · Manage underwriting relationship with key brokers from designated accounts to maximise financial results and to generate pipeline new business opportunities with increased focus on double red brokers. · Coach, train and develop Underwriters to continually improve their technical and trading capability. · Be the referral point for Underwriters, coaching Underwriters to make decisions within their empowerment and providing technical and trading input to improve the quality of underwriting decisions. · Actively manage and review underwriting standards and licences within the team ensuring effective management and deployment of empowerment. · Support Trading Team Manager to effectively manage the service provided to brokers and input to the performance management of Underwriters. · Demonstrate contribution to loss ratio control by effectively implementing branch UW controls. · Identify poorly performing accounts and investigate reasons for lack of retention · Implement actions to increase retention. · Account financial results including GWP, profit, loss ratio, retention, commission, rate increases, NRI, credit control. · Evidence of accounts being actively managed monitored and actions to improve profitability owned and implemented. · Quality of underwriting decisions - assessed by profitability of account (individual and team performance), Evaluate and audits. · Proactively implementing training and coaching plans to increase technical & trading capability in place and progress evidenced. · Evidence of consistently operating within branch empowerment. · Evidence of active engagement with Trading Centre. Measures: · Account financial results including GWP, profit, loss ratio, retention, commission, rate increases, NRI, credit control. · Evidence of accounts being actively managed monitored and actions to improve profitability owned and implemented. · Quality of underwriting decisions - assessed by profitability of account (individual and team performance), Evaluate and audits. · Proactively implementing training and coaching plans to increase technical & trading capability in place and progress evidenced. · Evidence of consistently operating within branch empowerment. · Feedback from internal and external customers and line management. · IIC, Brokerbility et al results and broker feedback. Skills & Experience · Progress towards Dip CII qualification desirable or equivalent experience. · Excellent interpersonal skills. · Excellent coaching and development skills. · Strong trading capability - commercial awareness, negotiation skills, ability to build strong broker relationships. · Pragmatic decision maker with good analytical and numerical reasoning skills. · Strong level of technical underwriting expertise in a commercial insurance environment. · Sound understanding of insurance market and processes across commercial lines insurance operations. · Sound knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements for insurance (including treating customers fairly). · Excellent written and verbal communication skills. · Proven experience in decision making on a wide range of technical underwriting scenarios within a Commercial environment. · Excellent risk assessment and risk management skills.
