Overview

Environment and Release Engineer required by market leading financial services organisation based in Cardiff. The Environment and Release Engineer is a new position to the business and will allow the successful application to provide environment build, configuration and release activity working with Middleware, Development, Testing and Project teams to build, support and manage environments across our client's property estate. The Environment and Release Engineer is a key role within the organisation and will suit a candidate with a high technical aptitude who pays attention to detail at all times. Focusing on providing support and release activities to both internal and client infrastructure, client support as well as new project work. This role involves building, managing & supporting environments across Windows, IBM OS/400 and Linux Operating Systems using in-house developed tooling. The individual working within this role should have a background in shell scripting and be competent across a number of technologies such as PowerShell, Python, Bash and in the use of Jenkins Duties Ability to communicate with Clients at a Professional level, explaining technical issues to non-technical staff Working with the Technical Consultants and Project Managers to deliver to solutions, on time, in conjunction with client expectations Environment Design including liaising with internal teams to refine solutions to requirements. Ensuring that SLA breaches are kept to a minimum by implementing measures and controls to ensure stability of systems Provide recommendations of efficiency savings, through consolidation, automation or other methods Use of automation and scripting to improve efficiencies of solutions, reducing reliance on human interaction to perform regular, repeatable tasks. Essential A background in a 3rd line technical or Release Engineer role DevOps - Jenkins integration Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines Automation implementation. Working with version control systems Shell Scripting (Python, Bash, Perl etc.) Linux Experience Experience with Jira and Confluence Good stakeholder management, technical execution and attention to detail Excellent communicator both written and verbally Self-starter / self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. Fast learner and detail-oriented with high degree of accuracy. Organised and able to work in a fast-paced environment Full UK Driving licence and access to a car for business use Desirable Educated to degree level ITIL Foundation or Greater IBM Certified System Administrator - IBM i Good understanding of networking and common network services (DHCP, DNS, IP v4 Routing etc.) IBM CL Programming Knowledge of IBM OS/400 Operating System Exposure to IBM WebSphere or comparable technology such as JBOSS, Tomcat Exposure to IBM HTTP Server or comparable technology such as Apache, Nginx Exposure to WebSphere MQ exposure or comparable Message Queuing Technology This fantastic opportunity comes with an excellent basic salary from £40,000-45,000 p/a and is accompanied with a 10% bonus, Private Medical Insurance, 24 days holiday (increasing to up to 30 days with service), 6% Pension, Life Assurance, Flex Benefits, Eye Test and an annual Flu Vaccination to name but a few.
