Overview
UK Health Safety Manager with experience of decommissioning, closure and dilapidation programmes sought by a bespoke interiors manufacturer who are undergoing strategic expansion, to work proactively in promoting a culture of safe working throughout the organisation on a 9 month fixed term contract with the possibility of being extended for a further 9 months. This role would also suit a contractor on 2-3 days per week. The Role: Reporting to the EU HR HSE Manager, youll promote a positive attitude towards Health and Safety and delivering positive outcomes in line with current HS legislations. Youll continually monitor and improve Health and Safety Policy and make recommendations on how to ensure compliance across the business. Your key duties will include: Ensure the companys HS Policy is implemented consistently across the organisation Monitor, evaluate and review HS Policy and practice, make recommendations and implement new policies and procedures as required Advise the Board and Senior Management team on the implications of current and emerging Health, Safety and Welfare legislation, including evaluating options, making recommendations and generating action plans to ensure compliance across the business Support managers to maintain safe systems: specialist advice, coaching and practical support Help managers effectively implement HS systems and procedures to meet requirements, e.g. accident reporting and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Perform audits to evaluate effectiveness of HS systems and procedures, identify and implement improvements Manage internal asbestos surveying service and programme of fire risk assessments and where necessary relevant control measures Ensure routine Health and Safety activities and checks are carried out e.g. testing portable electrical appliances and reviewing risk assessments Investigate or assist others to investigate the circumstances and causes of accidents, taking necessary steps to prevent recurrence Take action to mitigate the impact and likelihood of Health Safety risks Co-ordinate the issuing of notifications where required by the Health Safety Executive Manage claims and deal with insurance companies Work with Maintenance Managers from Shropshire and Worcestershire sites to ensure that planned maintenance is carried out on safety critical equipment Management of a Health Safety Officer The successful UK Health Safety Manager should have: Previous experience of decommissioning, closure and dilapidation programmes is essential Asbestos Regulations and chemical awareness Relevant qualification e.g. NEBOSH Diploma Proven background of successfully managing Health Safety activities across multiple sites Strong experience in managing audit records and schedules Extensive knowledge of effective HS Management strategies, applying best practice Detailed knowledge of current HS legislation, its application in a factory environment Continuous Professional and Personal Development Excellent IT skills including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint Excellent verbal and written communication Confident and assertive with interpersonal skills and the ability to challenge constructively The ability to plan, prioritise and organise own workload Ability to cope with pressure and work to tight deadlines Ability to overcome obstacles, solve problems and achieve results Effective team working networking skills, able to work independently using own initiative Comfortable with regular travel to Europe (1 week in every 4 weeks) UK Health Safety Manager - 9 month fixed term contract Telford, Shropshire Excellent salary benefits
