Overview

Principal Analytical Chemist (Food Contact Analysis), based in Leatherhead, Surrey The role This is an exciting opportunity within Smithers MSE’s Analytical Testing team for a Principal Analytical Chemist to take on a key role in providing an effective analytical testing service for customers by the application of expertise and problem solving skills. You will be responsible for understanding and determining customer requirements, and undertaking complex and challenging projects with the aim of solving customer problems and providing studies to help our clients register food contact materials with regulatory bodies such as the FDA and EFSA. You will have the ability to plan and execute non-routine migration studies and trace analytical work, ensuring that targets agreed with clients are met on time and to an exceptional quality standard. You will also be responsible for co-ordinating and mentoring junior members of staff. The person You will be a graduate with a BSc/MSc or equivalent in the Chemical sciences or have comparable experience in a similar role. You’ll bring a high level of expertise and professionalism to all aspects of analytical testing, with extensive experience including method development and validation in at least three of the following analytical techniques; GC, GC/MS, HPLC, LC-MS and trace analysis this should be backed up by experience of interpretation of mass spectra and structural elucidation. Knowledge of plastics and food packaging would be desirable. Report-writing, problem-solving skills and self-motivation with the desire to assist others, along with a strong knowledge of quality systems are essential.
