Job Title - Commercial Underwriter Contract - Permanent Salary - GBP35k competitive package offering Location - Kent Industry - Insurance Underwriter (Insurance, Underwriting, Commercial, Assistant Underwriter) Our client have an opportunity to join a small and friendly team - whilst enjoying all the benefits and support of being a part of the world's biggest insurance brand. Our clients Branch network manages all day to day trading, underwriting and service activity, including new business and renewal trading and processing, handling customer enquiries, high quality underwriting for profit and providing a consistent top quality service to all of their customer distribution channels. You will be helping to deliver the team trading results through effective underwriting and trading of existing Commercial business. You will build dynamic underwriting relationships with brokers to assist in delivery of those results. You will probably already be in be in a similar position, but looking for a more successful and ambitious company to help support your longer term career aspirations. We will help you build on your strengths and provide tailored mentoring and soft and technical training to help you to maximise your potential going forward. What will I be doing? - Delivering planned financial results through the effective underwriting of existing cases. - Demonstrating your contribution to loss ratio control by effectively adhering to branch UW controls. - Building effective trading relationships with Brokers through trading activity to be recognised as a positive trading partner, contributing to achievement of results. - Identifying poorly performing accounts and investigating reasons for lack of retention and poor conversion. Discussing actions with Senior Underwriters, Team Trading Managers & Account Managers and implementing actions to increase retention. - Contributing to the improvement of profitability by implementing actions agreed with brokers to improve account performance. - Contributing to the development of colleagues by coaching and acting as a reference point to assist in decision making within empowerment, as appropriate. - Producing timely and accurate documentation. What will I need? - Previous Commercial Property and Casualty underwriting experience - essential. - Progress towards CII qualification - preferred. - Excellent interpersonal skills. - Strong trading capability - commercial awareness, negotiation skills, ability to build strong broker relationships. - Pragmatic decision making with good analytical and numerical reasoning skills. - Proven experience in decision making on a wide range of underwriting scenarios within a Commercial environment. - Sound understanding of insurance market and processes across commercial lines insurance operations. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Experience of working in teams and a successful record of delivering results.
