VAT & TAX Accountant PAYE £20.12 Umbrella: £25.05 Location: Bath Long term contract My client are currently recruiting for a role in bath The primary purpose of this post is to provide strategic support to the Chief Financial Officer, the Head of Corporate Finance and Members on the ever changing financial environment, particularly with regard to VAT, as it affects the Authority, through interpretation, analysis and timely communication, to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency. It is essential that the candidate has current VAT experience. With agreement, the work pattern for the hours can be made flexible across Mon-Fri to suit the candidate. This can only be achieved through the post holder having a detailed knowledge of the changes in the overall situation and in services of the Authority, as any change to the authority's services or overall operation can affect the VAT position. To do this, the post holder will need to be able to recognize situations with VAT implications, to interpret VAT legislation and have the ability to understand very complex rules and analyse and carry out financial forecasting. Main duties. Advice to Members on all VAT and taxation issues to ensure the financial effects of policy and other corporate proposals are correctly and clearly presented and taken account of in reaching Members decisions. Provide VAT advice to officers at all levels (including Cabinet, Directors and Heads of Service) of the Council on demand. Anticipate, research, interpret, analyse and advise on current and proposed VAT regulations and relevant tax legislation and determine their effect on the Authority, whilst maintaining extensive knowledge of VAT and its application to Local Government and Council business and project activities. To anticipate then to forecast, evaluate and make recommendations to Council on issues relating to the Council's VAT and tax liabilities to minimise VAT liabilities for the Council in the short, medium and longer term. Liaise with officers of HM Revenue & Customs, especially during and after their visits to inspect the Council's VAT records. Ensure that all potential or actual corrections to previous monthly refunds of VAT to the Council are accurately implemented on a timely basis. Essential skills and experience A qualified accountant or equivalent specialist with VAT experience Able to management of an Authority's Partial Exemption position and mitigate risks through pursing Opting to Tax Complex tasks and potentially conflicting demands without supervision, to a high standard and within tight timescales Experience of liaison with external auditor and representatives of Customs and Excise High level of interpersonal skills and communication, both orally and in writing, with all levels of the Authority Possesses drive, initiative, flair in problem solving in minimising the Councils Vat liabilities, decisiveness, adaptability Strong Analytical and business sense skills Thorough knowledge of Financial Information Systems.
