Night Practitioner (Waking Nights - Homelessness) Permanent - Full-Time 35 Hours per week, flexible from Monday to Sunday Salary: £21,500 per annum Holidays: 35 days annual leave, rising to 40 days annual leave after 5 years employment Due to the coronavirus we have suspended all face to face client and candidate meetings but are still continuing to hire and to register candidates remotely utilising a range of technologies (video and telephone conferencing) to get the job done and we are still able to service our clients in Local Authorities, the Voluntary and Private sectors at this time to ensure we are able to deliver front line care and support services to our most vulnerable members of society. The Social Care Community Partnership are currently recruiting for the charity, Four Square, for Waking Night Shift Project Workers in Edinburgh. This charity provides a service for young people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. The role of the Young People Homelessness Practitioner involves supporting service users overcome any problems they may have to build a stable life for themselves. The shift time is 9.45pm to 8.15am with a pattern of four nights on followed by four nights off. It is crucial that Practitioners are proactive, organised, can problem solve, be positive, be approachable, friendly, patient and confident. It is also important that practitioners have a good understanding of homelessness, trauma and adversity and how it impacts life outcomes. The waking night shift posts are for the following services:- Stop Over: crisis accommodation for young people aged 16-25 where there are 4 self-contained flats that can accommodate up to 16 young people. Key Moves Hostel: a 20 bedded women's refuge in the city centre for women having experienced domestic abuse. No. 20: provides accommodation in a safe environment for up to 6 months for 6 young women aged 16-25. Key responsibilities To be responsible for the welfare and well-being of all service users. To address safety issues that may arise for service users during the night. To ensure house rules and occupancy agreements are adhered to. To ensure the general security of the building. To receive and process referrals and enquiries. To complete emergency admissions if required. To liaise with other Four Square services and relevant external agencies in order to ensure the most effective services for service users. To ensure the provision of facilities and services, in line with service users' occupancy agreements. To maintain the necessary and appropriate records within the project. This will include updating computer based recording systems on a regular basis. To prepare a shift planner for the staff coming in day shift Qualifications and experience: Experience of working with people from a disadvantaged background. Understanding of the resettlement process. Experience of working effectively as a member of a team. Experience of decision making and working effectively using one's own initiative. Good communication and numeracy skills. Experience of and the ability to work under pressure. Proficiency in I.T - word-processing, spreadsheets and databases. An understanding of and commitment to Equal Opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice in a work setting. Desirable to have a relevant qualification in Social Care, Social Work, Community Education, Mental Health, Nursing or related discipline.
