Benefits Advisor for Four Square - Edinburgh Permanent - Full-Time 35 Hours per week, Monday to Friday Salary: £24,000 per annum Holidays: 35 days annual leave, rising to 40 days annual leave after 5 years employment Due to the coronavirus we have suspended all face to face client and candidate meetings but are still continuing to hire and to register candidates remotely utilising a range of technologies (video and telephone conferencing) to get the job done and we are still able to service our clients in Local Authorities, the Voluntary and Private sectors at this time to ensure we are able to deliver front line care and support services to our most vulnerable members of society. The Social Care Community Partnership are currently recruiting for a Benefits Advisor on an exclusively retained basis for the charity, Four Square, based in Edinburgh. This charity provides a service for young people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. This is a permanent role to extend our advice and advocacy service. The person will provide welfare benefits advice to those using our accommodation and community-based support and will be offered via appointments and through drop-in sessions in locations across the city, within partners' services and in people's homes. Working 35 hours per week flexibly between the hours of 8.00am - 6.00pm, Monday to Friday with occasional need for evening and weekend working to meet the needs of our services and those using them. Key responsibilities Advising and applying for welfare benefits and to provide advocacy and representation if required. To provide advice and support to staff in Four Square who have complex cases and need specialist advice. To signpost and refer people to services, professionals and community supports to address other presenting needs. Use a flexible approach to ensure service users are receiving the help they want. Partnership working with other professionals to ensure a quality holistic approach. Qualifications and experience: Have general experience of advising and applying for welfare benefits and be willing to undertake training to develop a more in-depth knowledge Have a good understanding of homelessness, trauma and adversity and how it impacts life outcomes. Experience of working within safeguarding framework / working with vulnerable people. Important for advisor to be proactive, organised, can problem solve, be positive, be approachable, friendly, patient and confident. Educated to SVQ3 level or above in relevant field. Have a good standard of numeracy and literacy and able to produce clear written communications. Proficiency using a range of IT tools to carry out your work, including case management systems, Microsoft Office applications, internet and email etc. is important too.
