Principal Communications Systems Engineer Rate: £40.51 P/H LTD Location: Southampton, SO14 Duration: 6 months A leading defence organisation is looking to add a Communications Systems engineer to the team in Southampton, for the development of aircraft SATCOM & Mesh radio networks. The role will be focused on the development of secure communications waveforms & network architectures to be implemented on laboratory and aircraft concept demonstrators in later stages of the project. The systems engineer will provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle including design implementation, integration and test, system trials & product delivery. The successful systems engineer will be a part of the firm's communications, navigation and identification product development group within the airborne & space systems interacting with partner organisations / sub-contractors and potential customers The successful Systems Engineer / Communications Systems Engineer will have the following responsibilities: Delivery of specific work packages supporting the communications system concept development working across a range of technical disciplines such as: RF Integration, Signal processing, Waveform & network engineering. Management of system requirements Modelling of communication system waveform & network Technical documentation of system solution Feasibility studies to determine system architecture Coordination of activities performed by other teams Management of activities performed by suppliers The successful Systems Engineer / Communications Systems Engineer should have the following skills & attributes: Proven understanding of communication Air Interface protocols (including modulation and coding schemes Proven experience of communication systems analysis / modelling / simulation tools (Matlab) BONUS Proven understanding of Communications Security (COMSEC) architectures Proven understanding of RF communication system hardware implementation (such as transmitters, receivers, filters, software defined radio) Proven understanding of communications waveforms & networks.
