Principal Communications Systems Engineer Southampton £40-55p/h (inside IR35) £42.39 PAYE approx THE OPPORTUNITY Our client is seeking communication systems engineers for the development of aircraft SATCOM and Mesh radio networks. The role will be initially focussed on the development of secure communications waveforms and network architectures; to be implemented on laboratory and aircraft concept demonstrators in later stages of the project. The systems engineer will provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle including design implementation, integration and test, system trials and product delivery. The systems engineer will be part of the Communications, Navigation and Identification product development group within the Airborne and Space Systems; interacting with partner organisations / sub-contractors and potential customers WHAT YOU'LL DO " You will be responsible for delivery of specific work packages supporting the communications system concept development; working across a range of technical disciplines such as: RF integration, signal processing, waveforms and network engineering. " Management of system requirements. " Feasibility studies to determine system architecture. " Modelling of communication system waveforms and networks. " Technical documentation of system solution. " Co-ordination of activities performed by other teams. " Management of activities performed by external organisations / suppliers. " Development of close relationships with key partner organisations, sub-contractors and customers. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR You must have: " Experience in the development of military and/or commercial communication systems. " Knowledge of Communication Air Interface Protocols (including modulation and coding schemes). " Experience in communication system analysis / modelling / simulation tools (MATLAB preferred). " Ability to produce detailed technical reports. " Graduate degree in relevant engineering or related scientific discipline. It would be nice if you have (any of the following): " Knowledge of mobile communications waveforms and networks. " An understanding of RF communication system hardware implementation (such as transmitters, receivers, filters, software defined radio).
