Support Worker

Mencap ,
London, Greater London
Salary: £17,900 per annum

Overview

Are you looking to make a real difference? We are looking to recruit caring and enthusiastic Support Workers to join our team, where we support individuals with a learning disability. The people you will be supporting love a variety of activities including swimming, music, dancing, shopping, baking, cooking, socialising, going on days out, cinema, being part of their community and can at times have a hectic schedule. All of the above play a significant part in their life. As well as the team of Support Workers, family members are very involved in support. Being social and having conversations about things that are of interest and daily life is something they truly value. However, crowded social settings are not fun and that is something that some of the people we support find difficult to manage. Indoor activities include music sessions, cooking, life skills and television. We support a variety of people from different cultures so it would be helpful to have some cooking skills and ideas in this area. If you would like to help support these outgoing and sociable people, who have a wonderfully full and active life, please apply and tell us why you would be a fantastic Support Worker. We include the people that you will support during all of our selection process and we take a person-centred approach to recruitment. You will need to be adaptable due to the complex needs of the service and the people we support. We would prefer to recruit Support Workers that are able and willing to drive the large cars owned by people we support. Our policy around driving the vehicles requires that applicants must be over the age of 25, have a full UK driving licence, and have at least two years experience driving in the UK. One of the most amazing things about being a Support Worker is that anyone can do it As long as you have a positive attitude and want to improve the lives of those with a learning disability, we will support you with progression opportunities throughout your career with us. As well as knowing that what we do is making a positive difference to people’s lives, as a Support Worker, you will receive fair pay and have access to a wide range of rewards and benefits as one of our employees. 28 days holiday (including bank holidays) increasing to 35 days with long service plus the ability to buy up to another 10 days via our HolidayPlus scheme Service related sick pay when 6 month probation is completed Pension contributions into NEST Scheme on a salary sacrifice basis meaning NI savings Death in service life cover for a nominated beneficiary under our life assurance scheme Loans for debt consolidation, bikes, computers and phones when you have been with us for 6 months Interest free season ticket loans Discounts and cashback from 3% to 30% at high street shops including major super markets, cinemas, gyms, leisure/theme parks, holidays and much more via Mencapextras Opportunity to purchase a health cash plan to claim towards dental, glasses, therapy etc. Free access to round the clock employee assistance program for advice and support Quarterly award scheme and recognition at every 5 years through our YouRock program Access to award winning training and development T&C's apply based on contract This job was originally posted as www.totaljobs.com/job/89761628
