The Role We are seeking a Head of Employee Relations to join Marshall’s HR team and assist in providing expert advice to our automotive retail business regarding employee relations matters. Helping to drive a culture of high performance which complements our pledge to diversity and inclusion, this leadership role is a significant addition to the HR leadership team. Reporting into and working closely with our new HR Director, the successful candidate will have the empowerment to shape the approaches, processes and policies that influence culture across our business. The role is very proactive and solutions orientated and will appeal to those who wish to influence change and truly make a difference. The role will be based in Cambridge and/or Milton Keynes with travel between sites with some flexibility on working patterns. Key accountabilities Leading a small team of HR Advisers, you will be proactively seeking ways in which we can equip leaders to effectively manage colleague relations within their line of responsibility. Building a 'click and call’ philosophy to managing disciplinaries/grievances/absences etc where managers can easily source process flows, 'how-to’ guides, policies etc themselves with the ability to call a central team if further help is required Establishing data dashboards and analysing trends/themes which will inform decisions on cultural priorities Preparing and managing large scale employment changes including TUPE harmonisation, contracting out, collective/non-collective redundancy Managing the escalation of serious cases, managing through to conciliation of tribunal preparation Working closely with HRBP’s to collaborate on proposals, solutions and change interventions Liaising with external bodies including employment tribunal, ACAS and colleague representatives Develop training for the HR Advisers and HRBP’s as well as the wider HR team Develop bite sized learning interventions for line managers to update on changes to employment law and recent case outcomes Preparing board reports with all cases with potential for employment tribunal claims What skills and experience do I need? You will have breadth and depth on all aspects of employment law and an ability to balance risk, commerciality and culture will be a pre-requisite. In addition, you will have: Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence outcomes at various levels Strong risk analysis and problem solving skills Outstanding written and verbal communication skills Ability to thrive in a fast paced highly commercial retail environment Team Playing skills, able to collaborate and support a field based HRBP team Due to the geographic nature of our business, a full EU driving licence is required.
