Isle of Wight Council Day Support Worker Service Area: Adult Social Care & Community Wellbeing Post No: 45004330 Section: Adult Social Care - Regaining Independence Date: August 2019 Responsible to: Registered Manager Job Purpose To provide for the residents with care and support needs. These duties will include, all personal care, nutrition and hydration, health and wellbeing and social activities to include accessing their local community. For example this will include talking to the resident and helping to maintain contact with their family, friends and the community. Major Tasks To promote the care and or support in a way which enables independence, rights, choices and inclusion in their community.Promote equality as an integral part of a role and treat everyone with fairness, dignity and respect.To develop and maintain a generic skill set that allows the Isle of Wight Council to employ your skills, abilities and experience across the Council and its formal partnerships as needed.At times you may be the nominated person who will be designated to administer medication for the shift.Upon commencement of shift to receive a handover of recent events and to read the communication book for any new information.Ensure the wishes of the residents are known and appropriate support and opportunities are given.To promote active support with daily living skills by encouraging participation with what people are able to do, whilst ensuring a person-centred approach and understanding of individual needs.All staff must be familiar with the procedures to be followed in the event of the fire alarms sounding.All staff to follow Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times, including food hygiene, manual handling, moving people safely and infection control. Staff must make themselves familiar with all working practices and procedures.To report to the Senior/Manager or the On-call Manager all incidents/accidents whether they are to residents or staff during the period of duty.Staff are expected at times to prepare, cook and serve meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner).To support the residents at meal times and help those not able to feed themselves as identified in their person-centred support plan.Staff are required to attend/undertake all training as requested by their Manager according to the needs of the service and individual needs of the residents. They will be expected to attend/undertake regular updates when due. Any training is attended on a day off or undertaken on their own time will be paid at plain time hourly rate.To assist with the transportation of residents to and from the Home, undertaking the duties of an escort.Support staff must be prepared to complete and maintain the residents Care plans which will incorporate regular reviews/monthly audits and all relevant recordings necessary.Staff will be required to take up key/coworker duties.
