Overview

A brilliant opportunity has arisen at a Top 10 firm based in London for a VAT Assistant Manager/Manager. Working directly with the partner and senior members of staff, the VAT specialist will be a valuable member of the tax business from day one and will fast become one of the 'go to' person within this firm for VAT queries. As such, the role requires a commercially focused individual who can think beyond the technicality of Indirect tax and enjoys business development too. The role holder may have specialist skills but will also be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients in a variety of sectors, taking day-to-day responsibility for the Indirect Tax team and playing a pivotal role in the development of indirect tax business. The successful candidate should have experience reviewing work with minimal Partner/Director input within their existing team. With such a varied client base, the ideal candidate will have a wide exposure to VAT. As this is an advisory role, a pragmatic and commercial approach to your working day is a must There is very little compliance work involved in this role as the majority of VAT returns are handled by another department. The individual should be able to advise on UK and international VAT liability, transactional issues and the associated treatment of expenditure under partial exemption rules The ideal attributes for the successful candidate are: - Strong technical background within VAT - Know how to take on technical challenges and able to explain complex issues in a way nonVAT experts will understand - CTA desirable - Work well in a team and be able to manage more junior staff - Commercial acumen and be client service led - Excellent technical skills and experience, and a detailed and up to date knowledge of VAT issues
