Overview
My client is looking for a a MySQL Database Analyst is required to form part of our growing technology team to provide administration, support and strategic guidance on the company's MySQL databases for an enterprise grade, online e-commerce platform. The postholder should have proven experience in a similar role and be comfortable working on both project and operational tasks to support the business. You will need to foster internal and external business relationships, understand complex requirements and communicate effectively at all times. Key Responsibilities: Reviewing and suggesting DDL for new features in line with SQL coding standards and best database performance for the development team Deploying DDL changes for new features to staging and production environments Optimising any slow and inefficient queries which are identified and suggesting improvements to the development team Ensuring service availability through 24/7 on-call Following and updating, where necessary, in-house procedure and environment documentation on Confluence Reviewing and suggesting DDL for new features in line with SQL coding standards and best database performance Advising development teams on possible implementations for new features at the planning stage Configuring database credentials in dev, staging and production platforms for applications and providing database credentials to the Devops team Configuring developer access to development environments and distributing credentials Configuring developer and Data Analyst access to the data warehouse and production environment for production reports Tracking Data Analyst requests for GDPR sensitive data, seeking authorisation where necessary Following a continuous improvement goal to keep all database systems as up to date as possible through researching changes in new versions, testing new versions with the development team and proposing / actioning live upgrade plans (expecting all platforms to have at least one upgrade per year) Regularly auditing instance usage and ensuring monetary and resource costs are understood with stakeholders Following a Change Approval Board approval process for any live service affecting change ensuring that changes are understood by all stakeholders and approved by management Competencies and Skills: Oracle Certified Professional (MySQL 5.7 Database Administrator) or equivalent Ability to optimise and suggest alternatives to MySQL queries (data, table and index assessment, explain plan, knowledge of covering indexes, hash indexes, derived tables, factors affecting temporary table requirements, query hints, index hints) Ability to manage own workloads and priorities well Ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders, maintaining a professional "can do" approach at all times Desirable: Maintenance of supporting in-house scripts and data feeds for database monitoring and binary log housekeeping purposes Experience of working with Business Intelligence Platforms such as PowerBI and Business Objects Experience of supporting Financial Reporting and Reconciliation activity Experience of working in an Ecommerce environment Good understanding of GDPR and other data protection regulations Benefits: Free onsite gym Free onsite parking Pension scheme Subsidised canteen Staff discount on products Quarterly bonus incentives for strong performers Please apply now.
