Reserving Actuary Salary: Circa £60,000 Reports To: Chief Actuary Location: London (WC2R area) or Regional Office (preferably Chelmsford). Can be flexible with working from home Job Purpose: Monthly reserving to support product pricing at one of the largest motor MGAs in the UK. The Job Role Driving forward the reserve reviews for the largest (GWP £900m p.a.) MGA in the UK using a wide range of actuarial techniques. Supporting the Chief Actuary with business planning and the annual outwards reinsurance placements Assisting the Chief Actuary in advising on M&A transactions by evaluating the reserve adequacy of external businesses. Assisting in business integration post deal completion. Being part of the development of machine learning models for Reserving to predict ultimate incurred values on a per claim basis. Opportunity for involvement in implementing machine learning throughout the operational areas of the Markerstudy business (specifically focussing on the claims and counter-fraud areas) Informing the business on historical and projected future claim development trends and claims inflation. Making appropriate allowance in reserves for identified trends and benchmarking these against external data sources. Quarterly discussions with Claims teams to better understand potential changes affecting claims development. Production, development and enhancement of reserving exhibits and presentations for key stakeholders (Pricing, Underwriting and Claims) Continually improving the 'actuarial control cycle', by improving reserving accuracy and enhancing communication with pricing/underwriting areas Maintaining high standards of analysis - including a clear audit trail of calculations, reconciliation and a sense check of results Key Skills/Qualifications Essential: Minimum 5 years' experience in an actuarial role, including reserving in general insurance with a good understanding of actuarial projection methods Extensive experience with ResQ and Excel Experience in SAS/SQL or VBA to manipulate data and drive report automation Some travel to London, Manchester and other regional offices may be required Desired: Nearly qualified/recently qualified actuary Some management experience, experience with M&A transactions, and experience with machine learning or DataRobot This job was originally posted as www.totaljobs.com/job/89769045
