Automation Engineer Salary: Negotiable (DOE) Pension Healthcare 25 days holiday Stats Other Blue-Chip Company Benefits Location: Cambridge (Site Based) The requirements of the Automation Engineer: 5-10 years of experience servicing maintaining and installing laboratory automation equipment in the Pharmaceutical/ Biopharma/Drug Discovery/Functional Genomics sectors or directly related industry You will currently be working as either a Research Scientist, Senior Research Scientist, Automation Scientist, HTS Scientist or very similar field service engineering role now wishing to be site based in Cambridge You could also have 2 years’ engineering experience working for an equipment vendor such as Thermo Fisher, High Res, Hamilton Robotics, Tecan in a customer facing Applications Specialist, Applications Scientist, Automation Engineer role working with liquid handling automation platforms You must have a minimum of a BSc (ideally MSc/PhD) in a life sciences subject such as, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Biomedical Science, Immunology or closely related degree (Chemistry backgrounds will also be considered) Strong understanding of cell biology and automating primary cell assays and/or molecular biology techniques’ Experience of developing & optimising complex protocols on liquid handling automation Solid understanding of core competencies involved in operating liquid handling automation Experience of C#, Java, HTML & other advanced programming languages is an advantage GxP Experience and training The role of the Automation Engineer: Scope of the role: The purpose of the Automation Engineer is to provide first line software & technical support to enable minimal equipment downtime. This role will be embedded within Discovery Platforms, and will provide first-line software & applications support for their Automated Liquid Handling, Plate Washer, Bench-Top Automation platforms with the primary objective of maximising system utilisation. Key responsibilities: Develop Introductory Equipment Training Packages intended for the client’s scientific workforce Develop & implement a performance qualification regime for automation platforms within Discovery Platforms to aid with the rapid determination of whether the root cause of an issue is either hardware or software related Oversee & participate in equipment support activities within Discovery Platforms Lead Equipment Breakdown Deep-Dive activities to identify the underlying cause, with the objective of mitigating its reoccurrence Work closely with equipment users to develop & optimise assay protocols on their automation platforms, ensuring optimal efficiency & performance Train equipment users on key concepts associated with the platforms within Discovery Platforms to support best-practice and mitigate avoidable run failures, ensuring optimal routine operation Develop bespoke support solutions built around the requirements of Discovery Platforms to enhance service delivery Establish & maintain strong relationships with Vendor Application Specialists Maintain awareness of new developments in the field of Laboratory Automation Provide technical mediation in the event of long running equipment issues involving multiple vendors Leverage the expertise & experience of the network of Automation Application Scientists and the wider team Help develop best-practice and facilitate knowledge sharing between automation SME’s Our Client: My client are a forbes listed service provider to some of the largest businesses across all sectors globally including Life Sciences, Industrial, Logistics, Real Estate and Pharmaceuticals This role is working with a top 5 pharmaceutical organisation in a well-established, technologically advanced facility working with cutting edge technology Excellent opportunities to progress internally within the business, and work within a great little but world class team - you are truly making a difference and massive impact not only to the business but the world by working with these life changing products The role is on site so there are no shifts, no travelling involved, Monday to Friday and you will be home every night You must have the right to work in the UK in order to be considered for this role Langton Howarth also operates a recommend a friend referral scheme.
