Connex Education are currently working with a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) based in Newham, East London who are looking for a specialist Behaviour Support Worker. The role of a Behaviour Support Worker is to support the young people who are no longer in a mainstream school setting due to social, emotional and mental health issues. They may have been sent to work with you in the PRU due the mainstream classroom dynamics of 25 students, sheet hand outs and hour long lessons do not coincide with the student's learning style, therefore may have resulted in behavioural frustration. It is your responsibility to investigate what motivates that child, what stimulates them to learn and the most effective way to build their confidence. The school gives you freedom, yet unconditional support, in creating a learning plan that fits each child. There is a class Teacher present who will instruct what needs to be learned but it is your job help that young person achieve it. Patience is key in this role with the understanding of the background that these students are coming from. Empathy is also a prime feature that we require you to have in order to be able to relate and build a strong rapport with the students.
