Engineering Technician Salary: £24,777 - £33,459 per annum (Depending on qualifications and experience) Grade: UKRI C/D Contract Type: Open Ended Hours: Full Time Closing Date: 16th March 2020 This role will involve the day-to-day technical support and contractor management to a suite of multi-user research and development facilities. The test facilities are exploited by high-tech industrial companies, STFC staff and collaborative academic users. You will work closely with other members of the ASTeC RTF Operations team to ensure services are delivered efficiently and effectively, and you will be key to enabling the organisation to successfully deliver its core business of science. An opportunity may be available for a level 6 apprenticeship for the right candidate. However, to be considered for the position, you have must have: Level 3 Apprenticeship in an Engineering discipline or equivalent experience ONC or equivalent qualification. Roles and Responsibilities: Fault diagnosis and programmed maintenance of all process plant equipment. Operation of the plant monitoring systems, associated instrumentation and control systems. Management of STFC & Contract Staff employed on above duties. Assessment of the condition of the existing plant, upgrade recommendations and technical review participation. Technical support of the operation and maintenance function, requiring a practical approach to problem solving. You must be prepared when necessary occasionally to work outside normal business and will need to be flexible to ensure appropriate levels of cover are provided. Who we are: Based at Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire, the A ccelerator S cience and T e chnology C entre (ASTeC) was created in 2001 as a Centre of Excellence for study of the production, acceleration and delivery of charged particle beams. Our Centre was born out of decades of advanced particle accelerator research and development within the STFC national labs at Daresbury and Harwell, delivering internationally leading large-scale science facilities. This included the operation of the SRS synchrotron radiation facilities, supporting the delivery of research toward three Nobel prizes. Staff from ASTeC have expertise in all aspects from design through construction to commissioning. In addition to specifically selected accelerator projects we are engaged in an ongoing programme of world class research and development studies.
