Overview

We are currently seeking a Skilled Transport Manager to work within our very busy Operations Department, primarily working in the general haulage and backload division. You will be assisting in the day to day operations of the General Haulage business, looking after customers and dealing with transport requests whilst liaising with drivers daily. The main areas of responsibility is the undertaking of the backload and return work, inbound vehicle routing and supervising the morning operation. Due to the supervisory nature of the role you must have previous experience working in a similar role. Responsibilities : Ongoing day to day route planning and scheduling Managing fleet of 60 LGV's and many subcontractors each month, using our in house software, email and telephone Search for backloads and continually develop our backload network whilst always aiming to achieve maximum revenue/rates Ensure the company fleet is consistently generating profit through cost effective planning Communicate fleet availability and issues to the whole team First port of call for backload enquiries Liaising with hauliers, drivers and colleagues to ensure on time deliveries Notification of any delays to the customer Resolve customer/driver queries/delivery issues To take responsibility and ownership of the morning running of the fleet operations ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe and legal manner. Monitor morning operations to ensure that all drivers comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, and regulations including updating the load plan where required Provide a positive and encouraging atmosphere at all times to ensure all staff work to the best of their abilities Pre-brief and de-brief drivers on their daily runs throughout the day Record collection/delivery status and discrepancies in systems and escalate where appropriate Troubleshooting critical transport related issues as they arise in a live environment Previous Experience with: Previous experience of planning routes for a large fleet Previous experience with a TMS based planning tools Supervisory experience - Essential Full understanding of current commercial vehicle legislation Have worked in Logistics & planning previously, or a minimum of 2 years in a similar role Skills Required : Have ability to think laterally and be a creative problem solver Be accurate in paperwork and follow procedures and process methodically in a proactive and busy office Computer literate with strong knowledge of MS Office An excellent team player, able to work on own initiative and make decisions An effective communicator A positive attitude towards customer service and continuous improvement Able to work under pressure whilst maintaining a professional attitude A flexible approach to work, willing to carry out varied tasks reliably and accurately Ability to question, challenge and improve upon existing processes Strong Interpersonal and people management skills If you feel as though you have the drive and ambition to succeed, and would like to join an award winning team whilst working within a fast growing transport business please apply today by sending your CV and cover letter or apply via the website.
