Senior Project Engineer Hilsea Permanent Full Time Hours 37.5 hours per week Monday - Thursday Start between 7.45am and 8.15am and finish between 4.45pm and 5.30pm Fridays finish at 12.30pm Pay Up to £39000 dependant on experience The Role To be the focus for all engineering activities on a number of projects, overseeing the work of other Project Engineers and working with the Project Engineering Manager to ensure the technical content of the projects is delivered successfully against the customer requirements. Key responsibilities and tasks Provide information to the project manager, enabling accurate project planning, including providing detail of work packages, break down of tasks and estimates of the scale of the work required to complete the project. Lead the design and development activities relating to the project. Providing technical guidance to the engineering resources assigned, including managing the flow of information from technical specialists undertaking work related to the project. Create and maintain specifications, project BOMs and other documentation required to deliver the technical content of the project. Report on the technical content of the project to the Project Engineering Manager. This includes holding regular reviews to ensure the right approach is being followed, and that any requirements for additional expertise are addressed. Act as a delegate for the Project Engineering Manager in the review and approval of technical content. Identify technical risks to the Project Manager and work on the appropriate strategies for risk management. Provide technical support for the Project Manager in customer communications. Work with the Project Manager to ensure that activities undertaken align with the customer requirements and project deliverables. From time to time create project plans for agreed scopes of work, and review and guide the planning activities of the Project Engineers. Track activities to project plans and budgets, regularly reporting to the Project Manager on progress. Raise purchase requisitions for purchasing to raise the purchase orders. Provide technical support for procurement, production and quality throughout the project lifecycle to ensure timely response to action items. Lead engineering design as required for projects which could include calculations, schematic and concept designs. Support the Project Manager or Project Engineering Manager creating proposals Undertake testing and commissioning of equipment. Ensure the companies processes and procedures relating to the project activities are followed, including ensuring design reviews are held and appropriate test plans are in place. Oversee the work packages of the Project Engineers in the team, under the supervision of the Project Engineering Manager. Assist the Project Engineering Manager in the development of the Project Engineering team members, and act as the first point of escalation for technical issues for the team. Work with the Project Engineering Manager to improve the processes and procedures for the Engineering department. Requirements Essential HND or Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical Engineering or related subject. Flexibility, enthusiasm, self-motivated and able to work well under own initiative. Able to build long-term successful client partnerships, both internally and externally. Able to negotiate and influence others. Decision-making / problem solving skills. Strong presentation skills, confident speaker and professionally presented. Desirable Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and deliver against key deadlines. Experience of overseeing a range of projects and acting as a technical escalation point for other engineers. Proven track record of delivering projects in the Defence sector. Knowledge of critical aspects (emc, shock etc.) related to the design of equipment for military applications. Design Qualification, Design Review and safety studies. Practical competence in mechanical assembly and test. Eng Or C.Eng accreditation. You must be able to obtain SC Clearance for this position.
