Overview

Biffa are currently looking for a Business Manager within our IRM division to effectively manage a range of contracts directly, whilst leading a team of dedicated Contract Managers to ensuring Health & Safety and Environmental compliance. The successful candidate will also deliver first class customer service in line with pre-defined business KPI's, promote employee engagement and support continuous improvement in productivity and quality of service provision, through regular reviews and improved contract profitability, to support business growth and best in class performance. The position will predominantly cover the Central locations of the UK and there will be a requirement to travel with the potential for an overnight away on occasion. Principle Accountabilities: To proactively lead and drive the growth through both intervention and supporting new business team of the IRM business within the region this role operates, co-ordinating all contract based resources to ensure an increase in operational productivity and improved quality of service provided. Ensure service delivery meets defined key performance indicators whilst driving best practice and continuous improvement in cost control and contract profitability. Defines and supports the development of employees as a whole by identifying and sharing best practice. Manages and ensure compliance of Health & Safety, Environmental, Employment legislation and Company policy to ensure defined standards and best practice are adhered to. Reviews and manages the full area P&L budget, delegating accountability where appropriate, supporting financial year on year growth of the IRM division. Work within cross-divisional teams to provide integrated recycling solutions using best practice and through continuous improvement. Working closely with the commercial team, this role will also be responsible for driving the efficient execution of newly mobilised contracts. Nature and Scope: The Business Manager - IRM is responsible for developing the growth strategy for the contracts and wider IRM business they are responsible for in line with the overall business strategy and working in partnership the Regional Managers, to ensure the identification and implementation of new and best practices to provide a first class customer service. This role will be pro-active in the identification of new business opportunities and will manage and support the retention of existing clients. Take responsibility for the overall contract budgets within their remit and work closely with the Business Managers to ensure excellence customer service and ensuring that resources are deployed effectively whilst seeking out opportunities to drive efficiencies. This role requires short to medium term planning in conjunction with the relevant Regional Manager - Specialist Services, based upon the divisional annual Balanced Business Plan. The Business Manager - IRM is responsible for building and developing a highly motivated Contract Management team, promoting open channels of communications with all departments across the wider business. Effectively lead, engage and manage teams, in line with our HR policies, driving positive performance and allowing for opportunities of growth and development, as well as supporting employee engagement. The role is semi-autonomous in respect of general management practices, however, this role will have to operate within the constraints of legislation, agreements, guidelines or policies and procedures. This role is required to champion customer solutions that meet Biffa's health and safety priorities with regards to its people and customers and also the environment. This role is a regional role and will involve the use of many personal skills such as relationship management, negotiation and people management. There is a need for innovative thinking and is solution driven. With the ability to build key internal relationships, ensuring strong relationships across the internal business, as well as the ability to build key relationships with external organisations. Person Specification: Educated to A Level/Degree standard. IOSH Certificate desirable. Extensive experience as Operations Manager or position of similar responsibility in services/manufacturing industry. Proven track record of working to clearly defined service delivery KPI's. People and H&S Management. Proven track record of delivering continuous improvement within an operational/service environment. Significant Profit and Loss experience. Knowledge and understanding of the requirement of working within a time critical service. Waste Industry knowledge including relevant laws. Knowledge of existing and impending environmental and H&S legislation. Clear understanding of the recovered commodities markets and how to drive vest value. Strong commercial background. Experience of operational line management.
