Overview
THE ROLE We’re looking for a multi-functional engineer to join rapidly-expanding team and bring additional focus to the service reliability and performance of existing and upcoming cloud platforms. This includes both award-winning IoT-based connected home platform – supporting the best-selling SmartCam – as well as home insurance sales and policy administration system. Working right alongside development, operations and security engineers you will help them achieve and maintain 99.9% uptime and first-class security targets. This is a hands-on role, and activities will typically include: · Building better consoles/graphs to improve visibility of live platform performance · Questioning unusual spikes/load patterns and understanding what created them · Working with development and test teams to delve deep into application behavior · Suggesting improvements to the architecture based on your discovery of the above · Working with the security team to discover and resolve vulnerabilities at all levels · Maintaining pace with evolving best practices and proposing changes to adopt them The primary focus of this role is to own the maintenance of existing platform, but you will inevitably be involved in other initiatives, such as: · Creating a load testing strategy and then implementing it · Devising an effective way of tracking transaction time through the platform · Detection and prevention of security breaches · You’ll also need to participate in on-call rota one week per month. REQUIREMENTS ABOUT YOU Want to hear about: · How you build or maintain cloud platform estates using automation tooling · Any experience you’ve had with IoT · Your use of security tools and your approach to hardening · What you look for when performing log analysis and with which applications · A time when you dived into application code to debug a service issue REQUIREMENTS Minimum 2 years’ experience of a similar role in a commercial environment, and have excellent hands-on experience with: · Amazon AWS · Infrastructure hardening · Tracking metrics in distributed systems · Terraform, Chef, or similar configuration management tools · Log analysis Since platform security is something you will help to manage it would be very useful if you’re able to demonstrate prior experience of any of the following, although client will of course provide any necessary training to support the role: · BurpSuite · Nessus, Metasploit, google · SIEM · IDS/IPS, DLP systems · Penetration testing This job was originally posted as www.totaljobs.com/job/89631231
