The role: So they are looking for a tenacious leader for their Research Team with hands on experience in Machine Vision, Artificial Intelligence, Plant Science, Geospatial Analysis or Algorithm Development. We need someone who can take ownership of our biggest scientific challenges driving them to closure with their team. The role is based at their bespoke new facility near Salisbury and easily commutable from Southampton, Basingstoke, Winchester, Andover and the Thames Valley tech corridor. Responsibilities (although not limited to): Leadership and line management of the Research Team; Hands on technical leadership for build of proof of concept and prototype systems Seeking out and forecasting our future technology choices and partners Skills: We always support colleagues to develop their skills. Our Research Team Leader needs to be able to "do" as well as lead, so should be personally fabulous in one of the following fields: Machine Vision - working with both sensors and algorithms to provide our robots with the "eyes" they need to perform tasks in fields; Artificial Intelligence - providing our robots with the "brains" to identify useful information and produce advice for our farmers; Plant Science - a understanding of the structure of plants (good and bad) commonly found in fields, and the differences between them, to help our robots understand plant classification and health; Geospatial Analysis - a keen understanding of the geospatial systems our robots use to pinpoint plants, and present this information; Algorithm Development - designing the algorithms used by our robots to find their way; make decisions; and provide advice; Sensor Technologies and Integration - broad knowledge of sensor systems, and the ability to help make practical choices on devices through both research and practical experimentation.
