ABOUT US The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity. We want to see a UK rich in native woods and trees, for people and wildlife. The Trust aims to engage and inspire people about woods and trees to help us meet our vision of creating, restoring and protecting woodland. THE ROLE Our vision, shared with our project partners Arkaig Community Forest, is that Loch Arkaig Pine Forest will be a fully restored native oak and pinewood. Its restoration will have inspired others to create healthy and resilient landscapes with revitalised forests at their heart. Local communities and land owners will work together for shared benefit and iconic wildlife and rare species will flourish in the glens. The Loch Arkaig Pine Forest Site Manager will contribute to achieving this vision by managing and coordinating the restoration of this ancient Caledonian pinewood in collaboration with the Woodland Trust’s Loch Arkaig Pine Forest Project Team and Arkaig Community Forest. THE CANDIDATE With a passion for, and commitment to, ancient woodland restoration you will have extensive knowledge and experience of forestry, preferably in Highland Scotland. You will have contract management experience, preferably including complex harvesting contracts. Ideally, you will have a track record of successfully managing Plantation on Ancient Woodlands restoration projects, preferably including native pinewoods. Familiarity with the UK Woodland Assurance Standard (UKWAS) certification process would be beneficial. You will need to be self-motivated, results focussed, an excellent communicator, and commercially and self-aware, able to work on your own and collaboratively. A full driving licence or the ability to undertake travel across a wide area, sometimes to remote locations is a must. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT There’s no other organisation like the Woodland Trust.
