Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Housing Officer to work for the Public Sector in Exeter. Job role: Housing Officer Working hours: 37 hours per week Monday - Friday (there is an opportunity to work from home on an average 2 days per week). Pay rate: £13.99 - £16.26 p/h DOE Start date: Immediate End date: until 31st of March - it may be extended. Housing Officer main activities: Provide the following services for customers both in the public sector housing and in temporary accommodation: Tenancy and neighbourhood management Regular inspections of all properties and neighbourhoods Regularly reviewing flexible tenancies Resident involvement, including consultation and participation Tackling anti-social behaviour (ASB) Establish a new relationship with tenants based on: Greater knowledge of customers, assets and customer demand Providing realistic services based on demand and resources Acting as a point of contact managing different tenures ('lifetime', flexible, temporary etc.) applying the same principles in an integrated, fair, supportive and consistent manner Project delivery, budget control and performance management. Skills required: Experience of delivering a comprehensive housing management service (ideally for a minimum of 3 years) with a social landlord and demonstrable knowledge of the key challenges involved in this work IT experience both in relevant programmes (e.g. Word, Excel, Access. PowerPoint etc.) and in using appropriate systems to deliver operational outcomes Experience of, and commitment to, resident involvement Experience in case managing reports of anti-social behaviour Proven knowledge of housing legislation and landlord and tenant law and ideally have experience of preparing and presenting cases or giving evidence in court. Knowledge of risk management including lone working and health and safety Well organised with the ability to prioritise and be responsible for a heavy personal workload Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately to a variety of audiences, across a wide range of disciplines to include written and verbal presentations. Good negotiation and listening skills to be used for example for dealing with disputes/complaints between tenants or between tenants and the council. The ability to be confident and assertive in difficult circumstances and be able to deliver information that could potentially be unwelcome or unpopular. Understanding and commitment to the principles of equality and diversity and their application to the housing service The ability to identify repairs and maintenance issues whilst on site and act upon breaches of tenancies and be able to identify Parking facilities will be available at the Civic Centre for the successful candidate.
