Overview
Department: Operations Hours: 37.5 hours per week / On call rota Reports to: Field Engineering Manager Job Purpose: To achieve the department objectives in line with the corporate strategy and vision for which the job holder is directly responsible and continuously improves performance. In addition to the Job Objectives as set out in the Roles and Responsibilities Matrix, the Senior Field Engineer will support best in class engineering infrastructure and technical services to customers and end clients through teams with competent and qualitative skillsets. Principal Accountabilities / Objectives: He/she is responsible for effective duties as set out in the below chart. The Senior Field Engineer will be expected to provide Field Deployment & First Line Maintenance support to a varied customer base. Day to day tasks will involve new build I&C activities and/or responding to maintenance calls within SLA, fault finding and hardware replacement with TAC assistance. He/she will also provide support in technical competence, observing Indigo's Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) standards. Main Responsibilities: Principal accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to: To provide First Line Maintenance support for Indigo Telecom Group to the current customer base. To support the company by carrying out installation and commissioning duties in both a project and maintenance environment. Respond to all interventions in a timely manner, ensuring as far as reasonably possible that all SLA’s are met. Provide OOH on-call cover as required by agreed on-call rota. Provide the Indigo NOC with regular up-to-date information on progress of intervention. Provide Line Manager and relevant Project Managers with feedback regarding on-site issues. Complete and submit all paperwork and documentation within SLA. Manual labour in supporting Telecoms Installers and Engineers. Where required provide First Line Maintenance On-Call support for Indigo Telecom Group to the current customer base. Maintenance support is provided 24/7, 365 days a year therefore a flexible approach to the role, with the ability to adapt and react to business needs is essential. Respond to all interventions in a timely manner, ensuring as reasonably possible that all SLA’s are met with documentation completed & submitted. Qualified and experienced in physically building Telecoms Infrastructure services from plans and to Quality requirements. Highly experienced Installation expert who is able to exceed the objective defined in [A3] plus provides team leadership in turnkey solutions. Highly experienced Installation expert who is able to exceed the objective defined in [A3 & A4] plus provides first line leadership and direction to engineers, defines and implements Field Quality Installation Standards, consults on Infrastructure Services and assists in the relevant Service Partner management programmes. An entry level Telecoms Commissioner who can provide services defined in [A3] plus is skilled and competent in providing basic standalone product commissioning to a level of "green light and connectivity". A highly experienced Commissioner who can provide the services defined in [A3 and A6] plus is experienced in Network commissioning thus providing network test and fault finding, leadership and mentoring to more junior members of staff, advice and input to technical designs and issues and demonstrates leadership qualities in "thinking outside the box" SC Clearance/BS7858 Clearance/Equivalent Fault Finding. Ability to receive instructions (written and/or verbal) from NOC (Indigo and/or customer) to resolve outstanding issues. Installation of metalwork, basket work and basic rack and stack services Fibre and cable pulling, dressing and secure of same Fibre and Cable labelling Copper Cable termination including Cat "x" and E1 terminations Continuity, test and measurement of cable and fibre runs Electrical connectivity of 240v AC and up to 48v DC to distribution panels (no power up until certification) Electrical, test inspection and certification of 240v AC and 48v DC power Field Installation Supervision of internal and external team members Provides the primary focal point to all Indigo customers for all Indigo Quality control measures related to field deployment activities Controls and Manages Risk Assessment and Method Statement documentation Completes Site Induction requirements Provides field Installation Quality Audit Services of Installation works to required standards including planning and monitoring of rectification works and improvement plans Completion of Installation work pack documents to include self 'Installation Quality Audit' certification and documentation Compliant with Company/Customer Logging On/Offsite Procedures. Compliant with Lone Working policies Adhere to Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and measure performance. Reports and provides feedback/support for corrective actions Provide feedback on performance of deployment individuals and teams to Engineering manager(s) Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with internal Indigo Telecom and external sub-contractor organisations Comply with company & local standards, procedures & protocols with specific responsibility for performance meeting engineering key performance indicators Ensure Health & Safety and Engineering Quality standards are maintained within the business at all times. Represent Indigo Telecom Group in a professional manner at all times, both externally and internally and support the adoption of their corporate culture. Provide a point of contact for escalation of technical issues arising in a project Perform and document site surveys or supervise the sub-contracting of such activities Perform all necessary installation activities on vendor supplied products and/or supervise the sub-contracting of these activities Understand and check network designs proposed for implementation (clarity, test and corrective action).Seek higher authority if necessary. Be responsible for the production of accurate, high quality project documentation Carry out tasks autonomously under the general direction of the Project Manager while providing feedback as required by the Project Manager Maintain familiarity with all Quality Systems and ensure that all work is completed in compliance with the relevant procedures Update installation procedures as vendor products develop and are implemented Provide a closer level of assistance to the Project Manager by carrying out basic project management tasks Provide specifications for and arrange for the requisition, supply and delivery of all tools and test equipment Defines and provides adhoc training programmes for other engineers with the aid of documentation and guidelines provided by the vendor equipment and technologies Provide leadership to team members and act as team lead during absence of management Demonstrates ability to lead by example. Demonstrable “hands on” experience including I&C activity, test equipment, network build, and power. Experienced in the installation and commissioning of Nokia, Juniper, Huawei, Tellabs, Infinera and Ciena equipment, plus an in-depth knowledge of networking, optical transmission systems and IP. Proven customer interface skills base on experience in similar environments. Report writing and procedural skills. Excellent standard of written and spoken English. Ability to work as part of a team. Ability to work on own initiative and deliver key objectives. Able to work under pressure. Ability to positively influence others. PC literate, especially Microsoft Office 365 suite.Experience of using Visio is essential. Willingness and ability to pick up new systems quickly. Self-motivated and able to work to own initiative.
