Overview
Our client is a continually expanding PLC based in Reading town centre (very close to the train station). Due to an internal promotion they seek to hire an Assistant Accountant. The role will suit a progressive ACA/ACCA/CIMA studier who will work closely and support the Finance Manager. The role itself is a growth role, initially taking on the month end processes which are quite manual with the view to creating a more streamlined automated process. Our client is looking for someone who has a good grounding in core accounting but wants to expand more into understanding and challenging the data. Alongside the month end tasks this role would support in doing a range of project work, focused on improving the knowledge of different business areas to enable the business to help improve control which would ultimately lead to ensuring the data provided to is more accurate. Responsibilities will include: Taking ownership of various accounting and reporting processes which feed into the monthly accounts with an initial focus on revenue Understanding and analysing the revenue on a monthly basis coordinating with the Finance Business Partners and Underwriting to verify and explain variances Preparing monthly reconciliations for a number of balance sheet accounts ensuring that any outstanding items are investigated and cleared as appropriate Assisting on various projects (across various areas of the management accounts) to investigate and improve controls to ensure the accuracy of stated results Recommending and implementing process improvements to improve control and efficiency Providing professional and analytical support to the Finance Manager and the wider Finance team Assisting in the preparation of the year-end financial accounts and related schedules for assigned companies additionally providing support to ensure a clean year-end audit A salary of £30,000-£35,000 is on offer plus study support and 5% bonus.
