Overview

The legal Cashier will be responsible for the handling of routine cash transactions for the firm, ensuring that the Law Society of Scotland accounts rules are adhered to at all times. The role will be providing a cashiering service on behalf of our 3 Scottish offices (Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen) with the main focus being on the Office account in particular accounts payable and recharging of disbursements to matter files with the need to provide cover for the other legal cashiers to ensure a quality service is maintained at all times. This role is a three month fixed term contract to cover for some planned sick leave in the team. Responsibilities Ensuring all Client and Office a/c transactions are dealt with in accordance with the Law Society of Scotland accounts rules Inputting of payments onto the firms internet banking platforms Bank of Scotland, RBS Bankline and Santander Timely production of Client a/c and Office a/c cheques when requested Stopping and cancelling any out of date cheques once the firm's 6 month deadline has elapsed and moving money from Office a/c to Client a/c in line with the Law Society of Scotland accounts rules where required. Client a/c and Office a/c banking and processing Working on the daily Accounts Payable invoices and recharges received for the 3 Scottish offices and dealing with any exceptions such as invoices or recharges missing key information such as file number/fee earner reference on the day Taking credit/debit card payments from clients over the telephone Obtaining and filing bank statements for all statements received by the Glasgow cashiers as well as all the other general filing required by the cashiers team Full running and checking of weekly reports to assist with the general housekeeping of matters and any potential COFA breaches reported to the accounts supervisor when they occur Working closely with the fee earners and other support staff to always provide an efficient Service at all times Liaising closely with the cashiering teams in London and Warsaw and dealing with queries both internally and externally in a timely and professional manner Assisting the accounts supervisor with any other ad hoc duties The incumbent may be required to work extra hours (in addition to their normal working hours). Experience, Skills & Knowledge Experience of working in a cashiering environment in the Professional Services Sector Working knowledge of the Law Society of Scotland accounts rules PC literate with a good working knowledge of MS Office, e.g. Word, Excel, and Outlook Knowledge of an accounting systemsuch as Elite/Aderant an advantage Knowledge of banking systems, ideally Bank of Scotland and RBS Bankline an advantage Knowledge of Chrome River expense system or Concur expense system an advantage Personal skills / attributes: Excellent written and verbal communication skills Enjoys working with numbers and looking for a long term career in legal finance Keen to learn and be mentored in the work they do to progress their career Methodical approach to work with a strong focus on accuracy Able to interact positively at all levels and a good team player Able to demonstrate excellent customer facing skills Can demonstrate initiative and the ability to be proactive, while also being able to follow instructions and provide support to the accounts supervisor Experience of working in a law firm or a professional services environment would be an advantage Firm Profile Dentons is the world's largest law firm, delivering quality and value to clients around the globe.
