About the role Here at Babcock International we’re looking to recruit a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our Energy & Marine Division. Our core skills include Naval Architecture, Systems Engineering, multi-discipline design support and project management for new build and in-service commercial and defence vessels. You will work within a large team of Electrical Engineers who support numerous and varied projects. Projects include; design packages to support submarine and surface ship refits for the royal Navy as well as International Commercial and Naval contracts. In the role of Principal Electrical Engineer, you will provide decisive authoritative competent leadership in the delivery of engineering and technical activities and be a “Subject Matter Expert” within the marine electrical systems discipline within all phases of the project lifecycle. You will plan, lead and control engineering processes and activities to agreed programme ensuring task and project risks are communicated and managed appropriately, contribute to the development of regulatory and standards frameworks, ensure effective engineering governance and contribute/lead Project Safety Assessment process. What do I need to do the role? You’ll need to have a minimum of a HND in an Electrical Engineering related subject and able to demonstrate breadth and depth of experience in a range of commercial or defence projects. You may also have experience in any of the following: •Technical Team Management •Electrical experience •Power Distribution / Power Generation •Control Systems •HV / High Voltage •Breakers / Cable Selection •Ship / Yacht / Lifeboat Design •Have successful project experience within the Oil and Gas, Automotive or Navy / Marine Industries. It would be an advantage of you also have: •A thorough understanding of regulatory requirements and classification society rule sets. •Be a Chartered Engineer and Corporate Member of a relevant Learned Institution, or significant demonstrable engineering experience and capable of registration with the Engineering Council at CEng level. What else do I need to know? Grade This position is within the Energy & Marine business unit as a Grade 7 which has a salary banding of £48,195 to £59,290 with DRDL Terms and Conditions which includes a 36 hour working week. •We are based at Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth. You could also be based out of our Bristol site •Permanent position with a competitive annual salary and excellent benefits. •36 hours per week with flexible working and overtime available. About Devonport Babcock International Group owns and operates the main refit, maintenance and workshop area of the 330 acre naval site at Devonport, known as Devonport Royal Dockyard, where it employs thousands of people. The remainder of the site at Devonport is owned by the Ministry of Defence and is known as Her Majesty’s Naval Base (HMNB) Devonport – one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. Babcock and the Ministry of Defence work in partnership to operate and maintain this co-located site by providing through-life support for submarines, surface ships and associated systems and equipment.
