Overview

Principal Engineer (Health Physicist) Would you like to play a critical role within Radiation Protection for complex submarine programmes? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer (Health Physicist) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness. As a Principal Engineer (Health Physicist) you will be providing technical and professional advice and guidance on radiation protection and environmental protection issues, in the context of Submarine and Nuclear-Powered Reactor construction and commissioning. This very diverse role will provide you with the opportunity to become a subject matter expert in a wide range of areas, as well as the chance to work with a variety of interesting nuclear challenges. Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Health Physicist) will involve: Providing technical advice to the business on radiological protection matters to ensure compliance with legislative requirements (e.g. IRR17 and EPR 2016) Assessment of radiological risk and ensuring the appropriate arrangements are captured in procedural documentation (Local Rules/Operating Instructions) for activities involving radioactive materials and radiation generating equipment Development and revision of processes and procedures optimising radiological protection in line with operational needs, to ensure exposures both to personnel and the environment are kept ALARP Development of, and support to, radiological protection contingency plans and nuclear emergency arrangements Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer (Health Physicist): Knowledge of the following: Radiation Emergency Preparedness and Public Information Regulation (REPPIR) Radiological Transportation Ionising Radiations Regulations (IRR17) Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR16) Formal qualification in Radiological Protection Knowledge and understanding of the hazards and issues associated with Nuclear Powered Submarines and Pressurised Water Reactors What we're looking for in you: You must have the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, at all levels.
