Overview
About the role The Environment, Transport & Infrastructure (ETI) directorate is responsible for a wide range of services including highways, transport, planning, countryside and waste management. These services are critical for people living, working and travelling through Surrey, delivered by the county council or in partnership. The Countryside Access Team is within the ETI directorate. The team is responsible for looking after 2,000 miles of public paths, including countryside access, legal, maintenance and improvement work on rights of way. Additionally, the Countryside Access team is responsible for promoting countryside access and biodiversity. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Countryside Access assistant to assist the Countryside Access Officer with implementing the County Council's statutory and priority countryside access duties, powers and responsibilities. You will be an enthusiastic self-starter. You will lead and organise work with volunteers, supporting training and availability of other resources as necessary in order to ensure maximum use of volunteers, their personal safety and satisfaction. You will have good IT, communication skills, with experience of establishing and nurturing multi-agency relationships (Borough, District, Town and Parish Councils, voluntary and community and partnership organisations). To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence : Understanding of rights of way and countryside access management and of practical techniques of rights of way maintenance and of countryside management. Ability to drive or otherwise visit inaccessible locations, sometimes at short notice, therefore access to a car and a valid driving license will be required. Ability to work outdoors in all weather and sometimes in difficult terrain. Flexibility to occasionally work weekends and evenings.
