Overview

A leading private college based in Edinburgh and Central London are looking to recruit a 'Policy Manager' on an initial 12 month Fixed Term contract. The role is paying circa £40K. The role will involve working remotely and travelling to the Edinburgh office at least twice a week. You MUST have experience in policy and Scottish parliamentary affairs. The role incorporates the following - To assist the Manager with policy and communication tasks relating to the Scottish Parliament and Government. Support the work by applying analytical skills and policy expertise in drafting well evidenced responses to formal external consultations, in liaison with appropriate specialties. Gather data by proactively scanning the external policy, parliamentary, legal and research environments to identify emergent issues. To work with the Director of Strategic Communications, Head of International, Devolved Nations and Divisions and Head of Policy and Campaigns to create and deliver strategies to ensure that people with mental illness, learning difficulties and developmental disorders are treated equally To have regular management meetings with the Head of Policy and Campaigns to progress influencing and campaigning strategies which are reflected in annual KPIs, ensuring that all policy activities are consistent, robust and evidence based. To assist the Devolved Nations Press Officer where required to ensure that the voice of psychiatrists continues to be clearly heard both in responding to specific issues and mental health promotion -and to provide briefing papers/policy speeches to officers involved in Public Relations work, when required. In collaboration with the Chair and the Manager work with other Colleges and faculties and BMA Scotland in co-ordinating policy activity. You MUST have the following skills / experience - Experience in policy and parliamentary affairs Taking minutes and administration of Committees Knowledge of mental health and Scottish mental health policy Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills Ability to work with minimum supervision as a member of a small team Proven ability to work under pressure, managing several deadlines at the same time Clear and concise writing style Research experience and skills Willingness to travel and stay away overnight This is a fantastic opportunity to join a leading organisation with excellent career prospects and generous staff benefits.
