Job Description Communities and Families School Counsellors City-wide Salary: £25,623 - £30,563 Hours: 36 per week, 52 weeks per year We are looking to appoint appropriately skilled individuals to the post of School Counsellors for the City of Edinburgh Council. The post holders will be based within secondary schools across Edinburgh. Successful candidates will work in partnership with the secondary school and itâs associated primary schools to oversee the effective delivery of counselling services to 10 to 18 years with the school cluster. Each counsellor will be line managed by school but will also regularly link with the local authority counselling coordinator to ensure appropriate levels of supervision are undertaken and to work within the citywide strategy for counsellors in schools. School Counsellors will be part of the wider pupil support team and will support child planning process within the national GIRFEC framework. They will be expected to support the whole school approach to emotional health and wellbeing and work in partnership with the wider school team and other key partners to do so. School Counsellors will work with the counselling coordinator to agree and provide appropriate levels of counselling services during school holidays. Successful candidates will be qualified counsellors and registered with an appropriate organisation such as COSCA or the BACP. This is a city-wide recruitment process yet we will likely match you to schools in your locality to minimise travel, though this is not guaranteed. This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh. Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals. The advertised salary will increase by 3% on 1st April 2020.
