A brand new, exciting opportunity has become available for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team at Cygnet Hospital Colchester. The Opportunity An exciting opportunity has arisen as a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team at Cygnet Hospital Colchester, providing psychiatric care to adult (18-65) inpatients and residents diagnosed with Learning Disabilities. This is a full time position (10 programmed activities) and the post holder will be covering two wards; Larch and Oak Court for up to 14 patients. Larch Court has four beds and provides intensive support for men with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs. Oak Court has 10 beds and provides dedicated and person centred support to men with a learning disability, associated complex needs and behaviours that challenge, who are at different stages of their care pathway. The Specifics As the Consultant Psychiatrist, you would be responsible for: Working as part of a multidisciplinary team which contains a wide range of professional disciplines and working collaboratively with NHS clinicians and commissioners who contract services from the hospital Delegating the assessment and delivery of services to members of the multi-disciplinary team, while closely supervising the activities of the team as they follow this model Auditing the medical services rendered at the ward and ensuring their good quality in accordance to GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines. In this role you will: Have medical responsibility for patients on Larch and Oak Court Be the responsible clinician and will oversee and maintain the care of all ward inpatients as required Streamline and manage the admissions and discharges for the most efficient use of beds at the hospital Work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT); working collaboratively with Consultant Psychiatrists, Doctors, other AHPs on site NHS clinicians and commissioners who contract services from the hospital Working in close collaboration with service users and multidisciplinary teams to produce effective treatment plans for service users To have daily handovers from the nursing staff as well as all other appropriate meetings including MDT meetings, CPAs, Tribunals and Managers’ hearings Participate in the Consultant on-call rota Are you the successful candidate we are looking for? Current experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist, GMC registration, Section 12 Approval and AC Status Experience of working in Learning Disability services Specialist registration in LD or CAMHS with LD experience Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team MRCPsych or equivalent In-depth knowledge of Mental Health Legislation Knowledge of risk assessment and risk management principles Proven record of Continued Professional Development (CPD) Excellent communication skills Why Cygnet?
