The Team Following our recent major wins across the Defence Nuclear Market, Atkins are now playing a key role in the development of the design of the Nuclear Submarine Supporting infrastructure. We are therefore seeking individuals to join us in delivering key facilities, systems and components across a variety of projects. Working within our ADS&T business in Bristol, Aldershot and Glasgow, you will be in a unique position of being able to offer support from concept through to detailed design across some fantastic, inspirational projects. From our office/s we are involved in developing innovative, practical solutions for our clients across the UK and further afield. With existing relationships with the major operators in the defence sector, we offer a stimulating variety of work, within a team which is rapidly developing to meet the challenge of defence nuclear. Whilst your office base will be in Bristol, Aldershot or Glasgow, flexibility in work location is a must – from time to time our clients do call on our team to deliver work from their sites. The role The role will entail providing safety case support to the Senior Safety Case Engineer during the design, operation and decommissioning of nuclear facilities and for the production of all nuclear safety documentation as part of the Site Licence Conditions. Typical documents you will be expected to support will include the following: • Hazard/fault identification studies e.g. HAZOP, FMEA, etc; • Qualitative and Quantitative Hazard Assessments; • Radiological Hazard Assessments; • Probabilistic Safety Assessments; • Safety Case preparation (e.g. EC, PMP, PSR, PCSR, etc); • Support to Engineering Substantiation studies; • Safety management studies. • Nuclear technology technical reports. • Engineering Change (EC) production (Cat 1 and Cat 2) • Fault studies • Design Authority technical reports Other key aspects of the role may include assisting in the production of bids and proposals, and implementing and contributing to safety initiatives. You will also liaise with operators, designers and clients, building a strong relationship with them. In addition to having excellent communication skills you will also be able to demonstrate the following: • Degree (or equivalent) in physics, mechanical engineering or closely related discipline. • Chartered Engineer. • Background in safety case production and hazard analysis, ideally with experience within the nuclear and defence industry. • Able to demonstrate good engineering judgement and experienced in using fundamental engineering skills. • Able to produce high quality technical reports. • Motivated and driven to meet delivery/cost targets without compromising quality. • Awareness of your own technical limitations and using the help and support of others to deliver. Security This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance.
