Overview

A disabled man in his early 60s is seeking a Support Worker for 11 hours per week (over 2-3 days per week). The man has significant hearing and sight loss and needs a worker to support him with household tasks – cleaning, tidying, reorganising and keeping his possessions and paperwork/correspondence in order. He needs a worker to keep his home clean and to advise him if his clothes are dirty or inside-out as well as to identify clothes that need washing and taking to the launderette. He needs assistance to go shopping and to store food in order that he can find it and access the cooking instructions when required. He enjoys American Football and listening to audio books. He writes stories which he would very much like to publish one day. It would be beneficial to have a PA who has good English skills to assist in finding suitable publishing avenues. It takes him time to establish new relationships and build trust with an individual. He would like to be able to access his local community more. His current property is not suitable for his needs and requires work to deal with the drains, damp, mould and general maintenance. His home does need decluttering but he is very apprehensive of people moving his possessions and being unable to locate them. This is a challenging, but interesting placement for someone who is looking for a long-term placement.
