Job title: Head of Commercial - RailType: PermanentLocation: DerbySalary: Negotiable benefitsJob Reference: JHHOCHead of Commercial is the key Commercial role for a region of the country supporting Project and Bid Management and interfaces with all other supporting disciplines. Key areas are: PaymentCash-flowRisk and LiabilitiesReportingManagement SupportTenderingEffective TeamBusiness Strategy Successful performance will protect the company's position and ensure maximum financial benefit. Interfaces with Senior, Regional and Local Project and Bid teams to ensure performance reflects or beats set targets.Role Submission, agreement and payment of Interim Applications and Final Accounts are timely and paid in full. Final Accounts are agreed within 6 months of contract completion. Margin is maximised and not less than tendered margin levelsStrategies for maximising cash-flow are in place and cash-flow forecasting is accurate and regularly updatedRisk registers at Project level are complete and risks are accurately assessed and re-assessed to meet company reporting requirements. Key commercial business risks are identified and communicated to the SLT together with mitigation strategies and updated as required. Liabilities arising from project activities are reflected in forecasting and reporting. Contract Disputes are managed and direction is provided to achieve avoidance or early resolution within 3 months of identification. Compliance with legal requirements is monitored and assured.Reporting is challenged to ensure accuracy and appropriate reports are delivered to the SLT in line with requirements. Supporting documentation is provided to meet business reports, including accurate Cost and Value to Complete and scenario planningSupport is provided to the Commercial Director, RDD's, Project Directors and Departmental heads for all commercial activity. Sub-contractors are managed and controlled from procurement to final account. As required, the company is represented at industry, project, business and client meetings, deputising for the Commercial Director as requiredCommercial strategy and contract reviews are developed supporting the tender process and governance requirements, ensuring key risks are identified and managed under the tender strategyA robust commercial team is developed and managed prioritising balancing permanent staff and minimising reliance on agency and contract staff. Commercial Awareness training to other departments is provided. Relationships within Project Teams and with Client, subcontractors and suppliers are developed and continuously improved. Professional standards are improved.Contributions are made to the development and achievement of Corporate strategy, targets and budgetTo comply with, undertake and promote all relevant Environment, Health & Safety measures, responsibilities and activities.
