Job Title: Grounds Maintenance Operative Location: Aylesbury Salary: £8.35 per hour Contract Type: Temp /Full time An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Grounds Maintenance Manager based in Aylesbury to join an expanding company. As an Grounds Maintenance Operative will include: Working as part of the wider Street Scene team, the role holder is responsible for the delivery of a safe and efficient grounds maintenance service. The role will be responsible for maintaining the Councils parks and open spaces through a variety of horticultural tasks such as, grass cutting, shrub bed work, hedge maintenance, ensuring sites are clean and tidy (free from litter) and gritting, snow clearance. The role requires use of relevant machinery and equipment to complete the tasks. The role holder will also be involved in maintaining and preparing the Councils football/cricket pitches. The role holder will require good communication skills, combined with a pro-active and flexible approach to duties. The jobholder will understand the high level of health and safety risks involved in operational services and will role model good health and safety practices. Employees will participate in and complete all training activities required for the role and will adhere to health and safety Regulations and the Council's safety rules at all times including the wearing of company issue uniform and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). The jobholder will also attend and participate positively in activities such as team meetings and performance review meetings as required. The Council has a set of defined principles, policies and procedures and the jobholder will work within this policy/procedural framework under close supervision. The jobholder will have little scope to deviate from detailed work instructions. Tasks are allocated and monitored on a daily basis. An ideal Grounds Maintenance Operative hold the following skills and experiences: Ability to carry out all duties safely Willingness and ability to understand and carry out instructions from other team members and supervisors Able to learn the AVDC Service Standards Able to be adaptable to ensure a consistent service and high customer service standards Jobholders will also be expected to suggest improvements to working methods and spot opportunities for commercial or service development and actively pursue these. PA1 and PA6 would be advantageous but is not essential as training will be provided. Full UK Driving License preferred. Practical understand of ride on mowers, hedge trimmers and strimmer's. Minimum two years horticultural experience desirable. Ensure that the work and role focus supports AVDC's vision for the Vale and its commercial strategy, by delivering cost effective solutions, profitable products and services, with the customer at the heart. Act in a commercially minded way in accordance with the council's behavioural framework and encourage colleagues to behave in this way, challenging inappropriate behaviour where applicable.
