Overview

Role Description Sellafield Ltd is the company responsible for safely delivering decommissioning, reprocessing and nuclear waste management activities on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. Sellafield has been nearly 80 years in the making. A pioneer for the UK's nuclear industry, it supported national defence, generated electricity for nearly half a century, and developed the ability to safely manage nuclear waste. We have a number of Safety Advisor positions based at the Sellafield site in West Cumbria. Objective The Safety Advisor is an integral part of a Programme, Project or operating unit. They provide professional Health & Safety advice and support which meets customer and stakeholder requirements to support effective delivery, whilst meeting Sellafield Ltd, legislative and regulatory requirements. The level of competence of the role holder is determined by the Career Pathway and the stage at which the individual is within their Career progression and personal development. The Safety Advisor may be required to contribute to the site emergency arrangements as a member of the site emergency duty team - e.g. Duty Health Physicist (RPA), Conventional EH&S Advisor, Environmental Assessor, Environmental Co-ordinator. Deliverables The role of the Safety Advisor is to: • Assess EH&S risks and provide professional advice in accordance with legislation and site policy & procedures. • Identify and respond to EH&S issues and concerns. • Carryout inspections, observation and assurance activities • Support the Duty Holder in the investigation of EH&S incidents and events • Develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of relevant EH&S legislation, site arrangements and standards. • Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the particular EH&S hazards and associated controls within the Programme/Project/OU. • Identify, support and facilitate EH&S improvements • Support, coach, and mentor EH&S role holders and those accountable for EH&S delivery to develop EH&S awareness and competence of the workforce. Essential/Desirable Skills Essential Skills • Degree Qualified in a relevant STEM subject or an equivalent level of qualifications and experience. • Nebosh diploma or equivalent. • Member of a relevant Professional Body (e.g. SRP, IOSH, etc.). • EH&S experience on an industrial site with experience of a range of hazard types. • Must complete the relevant aspects of the Safety Competency Scheme and associated training, in accordance with the requirements of the Safety/Environment Advisor Career Pathways and Training Programme Descriptions. Desirable Skills • Chartered member of an appropriate professional body. Salary: £38,040 to £46,000 depending on experience.
