Have you considered a career in education? Could you inspire young people with learning disabilities to grow and develop? As a Community Teaching Assistant, you won’t be confined to the classroom. You’ll deliver a community-based education programme to young people whose learning difficulties or autism mean that mainstream education won’t always meet their needs. Each learner has a bespoke programme that develops key life skills and functional skills in literacy, numeracy and ICT. You’ll work in our Flackwell Heath and Amersham provision, joining a great team of tutors and learning facilitators, on a 39 weeks a year contract , There may be an element of travelling and training in Aylesbury. Our growing No Limits division provides bespoke education programmes to young people (16 - 25 years) with complex needs. What we need from you Underlying ability and attitude are just as important as background and experience. We can provide the specialist training you need, but we can't teach you to be kind, inspiring and adaptive, to have initiative, to be friendly and patient, and those are all essential qualities for this work. You’ll need good functional skills, including English, Maths and ICT, not only for the benefit of the learners, but to record their progress in our database system. You must be a driver with your own transport insured for business use, willing and able to travel across the area. Reasonable mileage is reimbursed. Some things you need to know Most of your work will be during term-time but there is up to three weeks’ training and development commitment during academic holidays. You will often be out in public lone-working 1:1 with a learner. Some young people require assistance with personal care or medication. They may, if feeling particularly anxious, show behaviour that can be challenging. We'll provide you with a full induction, specialist training and support in all areas, together with leadership and direction from your Programme Manager and Team Coordinators.
